Vermont Probate Courts Research Information

There are 14 counties in the state of Vermont. Each county has a Probate Court, and the four southern counties, of Bennington, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor, also have a second Probate Court district. The Vermont probate courts have jurisdiction over a variety of records which may be helpful to history and genealogy researchers, such as the following: the administration and settlement of estates; adoptions; guardianships; and vital record corrections and name changes.
