Bennington is the oldest county in Vermont still in existence, created by the first general assembly on 17 March 1778.

County seat (Shire Towns): Bennington and Manchester.

Located in southwestern Vermont, with Windham County to the east, Rutland County to the north, and State of Massachusetts to the south, with the State of New York to its west.
