Note 1. There is a monument located on Scott Hwy (Hwy 302), about 1 mile west of Groton dedicated to Pvt William Scott, the Sleeping Sentinel.  He fell asleep while on picket duty, sentenced to death, but pardoned by President Lincoln.  He continued to be a good soldier and died a heroic death in the Campaign against Richmond.
