Ted was born in Rochester, New York and grew up in Bergen and White Creek, NY where he lived from 1950 to 1969. A graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School, he earned an AAS in Automotive Technology from Hudson Valley Community College and BS in Industrial Arts Education from SUNY Oswego. Later, he received his Certificate in Bible from New Tribes Bible Institute, Waukesha, Wisconsin. He has worked at several jobs including high school teacher, draftsman, technician in engineering and research and laborer. Currently he works for Mount Anthony Union Middle School in Bennington, Vermont.
Ted's great-grandfather, Ivor John Monger, came to the United States from Swansea, South Wales sometime between 1881 and 1889 where he worked for Standard Oil in New Jersey. Before that, he worked for the Vivian Copper Co. in Swansea. His Rice line is said to have come from Wales also, but Ted notes he hasn't been successful in tracing them back as yet. Ancestor Richard Rice appeared in Cambridge, MA in 1636 and settled in Concord. Ted notes that he started researching about 1992 at the inspiration of a distant relative who wrote to him for information on the Rice line.
His interests in genealogy and history to-date have inspired him through the years, in addition to WAGS, to offering help as a member in the Poultney Area St. David's Society and the Bennington Museum. His wisdom he wishes to share with all researchers is, "document everything you can ... pass the sources along when you share your genealogy. That way the next generation won't have to wonder where you got the information and have to re-document everything." He further notes, "Don't jump to conclusions without evidence ... it is too easy to link yourself to the wrong person or family."
Married to Kathleen L. Foster of Hoosick Falls, NY, they are parents of three daughters and have a granddaughter and one grandson. Ted notes, "Kathy's ancestry seems to be all English, Dutch, German and French-Canadian. No Welsh so far!"
