West Richland, Benton, Washington
Often mistaken as being part of the city of Richland, West Richland has its own government and sense of community pride. In the late 1940s, many workers from Hanford were frustrated by many of the regulations of the time in Richland, then owned by the federal government, and began settling across the other side of the Yakima River. The community officially incorporated in 1955 and became the Tri-Cities' growth leader during the 1990s by doubling its population to nearly 9,000 residents. West Richland now has over 10,800 residents, and offers a comfortable blend of quality rural living with city conveniences and services, and is known for its wide variety of family-oriented events.
