In November 1961, seventeen women, who wholeheartedly believed in the
history, educational and patriotic objectives of NSDAR, organized the Cascade Chapter in
Bellevue, Washington. Nancy Gargett was the force behind the organization and became the
first Regent. The Chapter was confirmed on December 6, 1961 and the first meeting was held
on January 24, 1962. The name Cascade was selected because this region identifies strongly
with the Cascade Mountain Range.
