Jim,
South Carolina Ships' Lists
by Victoria Proctor
http://sciway3.net/proctor/state/SC_ships.html
Colonization began in 1670 with the settlement of about 150 people at Albemarle Point,
on the west bank of the Ashley River -- across from modern day Charleston. The
fortified settlement was named Charles Town. In the early days (1600's), established
English colonists on Barbados were lured by the Lords Proprietor to emigrate to
Carolina. By 1680 the colony's population was about 1000 and growing. In that year
(1680), French Huguenots came, followed by English Dissenters and Scots.
In the 1700s, many sailed directly from the Old World to the Carolinas, encouraged to
immigrate to the Province through promises of free land (example: Bounty Act of the
General Assembly passed 25 July 1761). Many others, however, migrated overland
into South Carolina from other colonies -- particularly from North Carolina and Virginia,
both before and after the Revolutionary War.
Please keep in mind that early settlers arrived in South Carolina in a variety of ways
and you may need to look at Passenger Lists for states like Virginia, Massachusetts,
North Carolina, etc. to find your immigrant ancestor.

38. David SPINKS (1) was born on 8 Jun 1827 in Coshocton, Oh. He served in the
military on 16 Aug 1862 in Green Co, Indiana - Union- Pvt. Co. C, Reg 97, Infantry.
David Spinks enrolled at Greene Co. Indiana in the Union Army in the Civil War. He
served in Company C , Regiment 97, Indiana Infantry, he was 35 years old when he
enlisted on August 16, 1862. He was wounded on July 28, 1864 in Georgia. David later
became a sergeant in Co. C. He died on 22 Apr 1905 in Cane Hill, Ak. He was buried
on 23 Apr 1905 in Cane Hill, Ark in West Cemetery 3 miles east of Cane Hill and 3
miles west of Lincoln Ark. In 1981, after my grandmother Ethel Taylor Morrison's
funeral, my family and I went to Cane Hill, Arkansas in search of David Spinks and
Anna Riddle Spinks graves. The first graveyard we went to in the city limits was not the
right one. I had Sarah Spinks death certificate from her pension files and it said to drive
east of Cane Hill. We drove east and did not see a designated Cemetery. I asked a
person standing in his yard if he knew of any cemeteries in the area other than the one
in Cane Hill and he said he did. It was located on a chicken farm just up the road and
was back on the far side of the property. We went to the location and found no one at
home but decided to look for the cemetery. It was located far back and had only 10 or
12 graves of which the two I was looking for were located. I took pictures of the graves
and noted that they are in great need of being cleaned up. I intend to notify the
Arkansas Historical Society and the Daughters of the Confederacy to see if we can do
something about the little cemetery located on the 295 acre farm.

Jerry's TREMBLAY of Quebec:
REGION HISTORY:
South of the St-Lawrence river and northeast of the Eastern Townships is the tourist
region Chaudière-Appalaches. It is dominated by the Chaudière river, notorious for its
ice jams and spring flooding. The Craig and Gosford Roads, opened in the early 1800s,
allowed immigrants from Scotland and Ireland to homestead on land in this area.
Thetford Mines, known for its asbestos, and "la Beauce" with rolling hills, maple bushes
and snowmobile trails are also part of the region. "Beaucerons" speak French in
amazingly fast spurts and exhibit a fiercely entrepreneurial spirit.
Chaudière-Appalaches also includes the shore of le fleuve St-Laurent south of Quebec
City, where some of the first settlers farmed and built sawmills and grist mills.

Anna Marie/Maria Martin Trombley ? Kansas? Maurice Tremblay/Trombley 1890
Kansas, Illinois, Washington State, Oregon, as well as British Columbia and Alberta.
Annie Martin Trombley married Maurice Tremblay/Trombley in February of 1890 in
Aurora, Kansas..Annie's parents of record are Joseph Martin and Julie Landry..Annie
was 1/4 Native American/Canadian Indian and had several siblings. The names I have
for her siblings are as follows..Stella, married a man with the surname Wade and lived
in Portland, Oregon. She had two sons one of which passed away following a
motorcycle accident..Delia, married a man with the surname Wagner and had two
children both born before 1915. One of these children was named William and he is
beleived to have been an ambulance attendant who was later charged with arson and
incarcerated. Delia lived in Vancouver, Washington..Louise, married a man named
Fred Bailey and lived in several areas including Washington State and Oregon. It is
thought that she passed away in Portland, Oregon in the early 1960's. As far as we
know she had no children..Fred Martin, it is unclear if he ever married, however we
beleive he had a son by the same name who was an engineer of some sort and worked
in one of the major cities in Washington state on the street car lines in the 1940's and
1950's..There may have been other siblings..This Martin Family was of French origin
and their first language was French. .I'm searching for the final resting place of Annie
(beleived to be in Portland, Oregon) and her death date which is thought to have been
between 1946 and 1953. .Any information on her would be greatly appreciated..

the west... this being my mggranmother Anna Marie MARTIN TREMBLAY who
married Maurice TREMBLAY in Cloud County...
>Below are some of the dates... the place of burial is St. James Acres
Cemetery which is/was affiliated with the St. James Catholic Church in
Vancouver, Clark County, Washington. I know that there were Boudreau's,
Gay's (Guay) people in the same area as they are related to my Tremblay
family...

Ludevine Trombley, 1847 - 1917 (note: Ludwine Tromblay, 30 Apr 1920!);
All of the above people spent time in the St. Anne Area and most have
information recorded in some of the Cloud County translations of Church

I hope that some of this information is helpful to others...

This is from Jim Cochran in Santa Rosa, CA.
The second one comes from Jim Cochran, our regular GenChat
visitor. He says:
"My 3rd great-grandfather was William Cochran. He was
born on 15 May 1753, probably in South Carolina. He
was a Revolutionary War soldier and served the Colonies as a
member of a South Carolina brigade. He did receive a
pension for a few years prior to his death on 24 Apr 1821 in
Boone Co., MO. After the Revolutionary War, he moved
to Kentucky. He married Sarah Margaret Gamble on 3 Mar
1789, probably in KY. Sarah was born on 27 May 1768,
location unknown, and died on 18 Jun 1845 in Boone Co.,
MO. Both William and Sarah are buried in a small
family cemetery between Columbia and Rocheport, Boone Co.,
MO. I have visited this cemetery and have pictures of
their graves.
William and Sarah had 9 children including Sarah Cochran,
Anna Woods Cochran, John Gamble Cochran, and William
Cochran. I do have the names of the other children
except for the youngest who may have been stillborn. * Who
were the parents of William Cochran (senior)? What
documentation exists that ties this William Cochran to his
parents?* The problem is complicated by the fact that
there were 4 different William Cochrans of about the same
age in SC at this time. There also were 4 different
men named Samuel Cochran who could be the father of these
children named William Cochran. Circumstantial
evidence suggests that the Samuel Cochran who married Sarah
Woods may be the father of William Cochran, b. 1753."

"Here it goes, trying to find info on a Walter "Matty"
Trombly lived near Remi (Ranie) Thibodeau and supposedly
married one of His daughters this about 1900.
I have found some info in our library in the cemetery books
but not Walter the closest i come is a M. J. Trombley, some
of the Trombley's and Thibodeau's are buried in the Old City
Cemetery as well as some of the Trombley's are Buried
In St. James.
Both Families are distantly related to my Jones family
relatives, and I am trying to help out them in researching
these families.
Walter may be related to Mathias Trombley and His father
could possibly be Eugene Trombley our St. James cemetery
book shows Mathias J. Trombley 1877-26 March 1954 and Eugene
1850- 9 October 1941, I have obits for both, born in Canada,
lived for a time in Kansas, got some info today at the Ft.
Vancouver Regional Library.
Also a related family is the "Gagnon" Family also buried at

Certainly appreicate the photos and obits that CCGS has posted. Instead of having to
mail info to family members can just refer them to the website.

She writes:
Mary L. Wolf(e)
How to I find any info on Mary Wolf before 1850? Did she belong to a
religious groups traveling to Oregon prior 1848? That was one suggestion
at a meeting, but I don't know how to even find this out. How did she meet
Joseph? Did they know each other before coming to Oregon?
Just where did Mary die? Did she die in Columbia County, WA?
b. 4 July 1829, PA (Bible records in her own hand indicate birth not place;
census indicates the place on several census reports as PA; census
varies for her birth from 1827 to1832)
m1. 9 March 1848, Oregon (she married Joseph Robinson Switzler after
arriving in Oregon Territory). Have extensive details here. Do not have a
marriage record other than the family Bible. Clackamas records were
apparently spotty in the beginning. She may have a record with the
person who performed the ceremony. It is supposed to be in a small
library between Portland and Salem ????
m2. 11 July 1881, both of Multnomah Co, OR, to Alfred Neeves, with Minnie
Duvall, William Neeves at the Occidental Hotel, City of Portland, by A.
Bushwiller, JP Couch precinct. Alfred was 20 years junior to Mary. Alfred
Neeves was 30 and living with the Switzler family in 1880, St. Johns,
Multnomah, Oregon; Mary is 51.
d. 29 Oct 1889, unknown would have died as Mary L. Switzler Neeves ---
perhaps in Garfield County, W.T. where she is listed in 1886. Otherwise
Oregon and Washington are places where she could have died.
Known residences:
1829 Pennsylvania according to several census reports.
1830 there are at least 200 Wolf's to choose from on the index
1840 was there an intermediary place; did she come through Missouri like
Joseph?
1847 to Oregon Territory
1850 Oregon Clackamas Co. with Joseph and two children: John W. age 2
and Sarah G. age 1, Mary lists PA as birth.
1860 Oregon Multnomah Co. with Jos, 6 children and laborer Dan'l Harrington
from PA.
1870 Oregon, Multnomah Co. Hub Joseph died the previous year and is on the
mortality schedule; she is listed with five children.
1880 Oregon St. Johns, Multnomah, Oregon, age 51, father and mother born
Pennsylvania, a widower with Francis M. Switzler age 27, Charles Switzler
age 13, and Alfred Neeves age 30. She later married Alfred Neeves.
1883 Washington Territory, Clark County Census, March 11, with Switzler boys
1887 Washington Territory, Columbia County Census, age 48 PA, married ; next
person is a Lewis Neace, age 52, Germ; Elizabeth Neace age 42 Iowa;
John Neace age 20, W.T.; Lewis Neace age 18, W.T.; Isaac Neace age
16, born W.T.; Ellen Neace, 14, W.T.; Frank Neace, 12, W.T.; Jas Neace,

Here's the first brickwall for this evening:
Surnames: FURZER, HEATH
Nellie FURZER was b. 22 Jan 1895 in Melbourne, Australia. She emigrated to the U.S.
and was living on a pig ranch in Haley, Idaho in 1910; the ranch was owned by Horace
Albert HEATH, a member of the LDS church. Nellie and Horace were married 19 Jan
1911 in Salt Lake City. Where can I find Nellie in 1910 and before 1910? In what year
did she leave Australia? I know she had a sibling Eva b. in Australia, and other siblings.
What were the other siblings' names and where were they born? I have not yet
searched the 1910 Census.

it may be George Spinks b. about 1795 in New Jersey who migrated to Ohio. I have
been searching for 40 years, perhaps you can help. David Spinks daughter Sarah
married Raphe Norval Hatfield. I have all the information on the Hatfields and on the
