July 12, 2001 Pat: Hello - Nancy and I are glad you could join us in the chat room this evening. Come on in, make yourself comfortable and join us in chatting about genealogy. nancyp: Hi Pat, thanks for the opening! Wonderful sunny afternoon! Pat: Hi Nancy - how are you this evening? I didn't get the Washington stuff finished yet but hope to in the next few days. Pat: The weather was really beautiful. The sky is so blue. nancyp: I've had lots of good e-mail today, talking to someone actually going to Westmoreland Co PA soon, and will look for Elder cemeteries, etc. Pat: I stopped at the library today and used the web page to find a book or two. I think it's going to be really handy. nancyp: Pat, those library titles are so great! I found some good entries I wouldn't have tried. Pat: Oh, I hope they have a digital camera so you can see those pictures almost instantly. I like that thing better all the time! nancyp: Yes, the digital photos are wonderful. I attended a reunion in Ogemaw County MI just this week! A ton of photos flooded the e-mail, I could pick up a plate from the table... nancyp: And all I had to do was wait for all those photos to load up here! nancyp: Of course, they haven't told me who any of the people are in the photos yet! nancyp: But the Bison rancher taking the photos has a good heart, I know he'll tell me more soon. nancyp: He sent lots of the cemetery photos I wanted of my g-grandfather's sister's plot there in Ogemaw County. RonA: hi cuz,, hi Nancy Pat: I always like to be warned when big files are coming through. Sometimes it's just not a good time for it! Pat: Hi Ron - how's Southern California this evening? nancyp: I made a quick webpage for the Cemetery photos: http://www.teleport.com/~nancyp/cem/RoeCemetery.htm RonA: still 85-90 everyday,, humitity is gone.... just beautiful... must be earthquake season.... :-) nancyp: Hi Ron! Maybe Cuz, too! Pat: Nancy - if you and Ron end up being cousins, does that mean WE are cousins, too? RonA: My Niceswanger turned out to be a another long lost cousin... the wife, not the husband teacher,,, so now I (we) have located 3 of the 8 Adams siblings,, 2 in the last month... one on a bulletin posting and this one last week.. nancy,,, we may be related yet! Pat: Ron, have you taken a look at all the books posted on the web page yet? I'll be glad when I get done with it - I'm not used to working 8 to 10 hours a day! nancyp: Right! Sure have been finding more of the Niceswanger names, too, sending them as I find them. RonA: well,,,,, maybe we're having an ongoing reunion and don't even know it nancyp: Let's see, did I send this one? http://genforum.genealogy.com/niswander RonA: pat, i have not but will..... i never DID work 8-10 hours per even tho i was suppose to...... RonA: I found several nicewanger (sp) on switchboard, mostly ohio, iowa and the midwest. nancyp: Spellings may vary! "John Nicewander born aug. 16 1838 in Columbiana Co., OH. RonA: keep in mind the only ones I'll have will be descended from the Mabel Adams Niceswanger I met this week,,, not any others I know of. nancyp: In Iowa: "Rachel Nyswaner (1826-1877), daughter of John Nyswaner nancyp: Ron: Now I just might find mine in Westmoreland Co PA - spelled in some interesting way! nancyp: Here's a good one:"David M. Niswander, b.2-17-1874, d.11-13-1952. Died in Chambersburg, PA. nancyp: Involves a MILLER, which I'm also looking for in SW PA. RonA: I have two Westmoreland PA men married into my Higdon/Wood family... trying to see if they knew each other before coming west.... nancyp: What are their names? nancyp: I sent membership fees to Westmoreland Hist. Soc, and they sent me a nice packet of info, some ELDER stuff, and lots of names that occur in Wood co OH. RonA: Walter Endemen, born 1899, and Gilbert Hixson, born 1901 nancyp: Here's some early HIGDON info: http://members.aol.com/chiefstorm/gen/oth-h235.htm nancyp: Is this early enough? " Ranaulf Higden, d. 1364. Ranulf wrote Policronicon which was published in 1527, a reprint of the edition printed by Wynken de Worde in 1495. RonA: also some Finrock, Hatfield, Hozempa, Chellman, and Long RonA: 2 Higdon married 2 Wood around 1900 there in Vancouver... nancyp: I like the Hatfield one, we liked our Governor Hatfield in Oregon awhile back. My brother-in-law works at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR nancyp: I typed "Hatfield Pennsylvania" and got the town!http://www.relocate-america.com/states/pa/cities/hatfield.htm Pat: Hi Nancy2 - we're glad to see you here tonight, too. Ron and Nancyp have found out they might be cousins and he is my husband's cousin so we're all related here! RonA: great Higdon site.. I will pass it on to a cousin, Bob Rankin, in McMinnville OR nancyp: In Montgomery Co PA:"Located in southeastern Pennsylvania with Towamencin Township, Upper Gwynedd and North Wales Borough to the south, Montgomery Township and Lansdale Pat: Hello Cheryl - I have cousins galore here tonight. You'd better look out though - or Nancy will find out you two are cousins too! [g] RonA: my Hatfield married a granddaughter of a Shanks (mine) but is way down and over so that I really don't care to explore them... ha ha nancyp: Hi Cheryl! Well, I grew up in Scappoose, and there is an ELDER in St. Helens that I found on the PA ELDER list! Pat: I wonder if Montgomery County, PA was named for my of my great grandfathers (probably about 4 or 5) who name was James Montgomery and he was a hero in the Revolutionary War?? RonA: hi nancy2 and cheryl from sunny/warm socalif. nancyp: Actually, it was a grandmother of an ELDER... nancyp: Pat, PA does love those Rev War folks. I'm learning alot of history reading and transcribing those stories. Cheryl: My server is trying to make some adjustments and I have been having problems the past day or so. Hi to all ... yes I went to school in St. Helens with "little" Gene Elder and knew Gene and Pat Elder, etc. Pat: That last sentence didn't make any sense at all - it was "for ONE of my great grandfathers!" Pat: Have you all gotten a chance to look at the long listings of book on the CCGS shelves? If not, take a look at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~waccgs/p37.htm Cheryl: I saw the name Hatfield mentioned ... my ex- has Hatfield ancestors and was related (somehow) to Mark Hatfield, so we talked every once in awhile. Cheryl: Pat, I went on-line last night and began checking out the list you are working on ... very impressive! nancy2: Hi everyone and hi Nancyp. I finally found and got the pages I needed nancy2: Whoops pushed enter by mistake. On Jacob McIntosh. Now I am thirsty Pat: All I know about James Montgomery so far is that he was a Revolutionary hero and he was the grandfather of my ggg grandmother (I think!). Guess I should do some research on that line - just haven't had time for some reason! nancy2: Okay folks, It's been awhile. Now I'm thirsty for more. nancy2: Information on McIntosh that is. Cheryl: I had an experience a week ago that I have lived to tell about, but it was indeed frustrating. I have recently joined the POWYS (Radnorshire, Breconshire, and Montgomershire) digest lists. Put out a query on my JONES line I mentioned last time. Thought I was receiving an answer. I opened an attachment too quickly in my excitement and you know the rest! Pat: I brought home a book from the library today on Sedgewick County, KS where my grandmother was born and raised. I didn't even know the books were there until I worked on the list of books. nancyp: Here's a collection at Yale:http://webtext.library.yale.edu/beinflat/general/MONT.HTM nancyp: Hi Nancy2! nancy2: Hi Nancyp, I'm having trouble talking tonight, been away too long I guess Pat: Nancy2 - is your screen jumpy? If so, go to Options (red, underlined) and change the posting frequency from 5 to 20. Cheryl: Have you ever heard the line, "I didn't think it would happen to me." Right after I opened the attachment and found nothing, I was reading the digest of e-mails and several mentioned this new "bug." Yep, I got off line so quick and started printing my address book, etc. and deleted everything so as not to cause trouble for anyone else. The computer is fine now and I put Norton anti-virus on it. RonA: pat,,, the resource site is great,.... now if i was only there to use it... dang.... Pat: Oh no! Did you get a virus from that attachment? I got a note from someone yesterday with two attachments, didn't know the name and zapped it immediately. It's not worth open anything these days! nancyp: Hm, looks like a poetry collection! Just another relative at Yale, I guess. nancy2: Thank you. This week has been very strange. I tried very hard, last night, to get in but the door stayed closed. Thought it was Thursday, but no. Cheryl: By the way, the body of the e-mail said, "Look to this attachment." I just thought that was the way they talked in Wales. Pat, did it have our Sodens in the book you found? Pat: I think that's what the body of my e-mail said, too. nancyp: Nancy2: Tell us about the McIntosh papers. Pat: Cheryl - I have to look at my family file and see what the last names are so I can check it out. There are several cemeteries in the book and no real index - just partial ones. I hate books like that! Cheryl: Pat, what I got was TROJ_Badtrans ... a worm I guess it's called that affects e-mails by wrapping back the subject of your message with an attachment. People don't usually realize they did it to you. I still received the Snow White virus after Norton was installed, but the computer fellow said it still shows up as an e-mail but deletes the attachment with the virus in it -- right? RonA: pat, does your sedgewick KS book mention Walter German, born 1899 in Wichita? He was Liz's father. Walter's father was Arthur,,, nancy2: Jacob McIntosh of Cass county, his personal qualities & life of activity entitle him to the position of prominence that is uniformly accorded him. His grandfather was Daniel McIntosh , a native of Scotland. He was a wagon maker emigrated to Baltimore, Md. Daniel that is, I could go on and on. nancyp: Found Montgomery Co Virginia genweb " Named for Richard MONTGOMERY, killed at Quebec 1775. nancyp: Nancy2: Oh, I do like McIntosh folks! My ELDER folks are of the McIntosh clan "Touch not the CAT bot a glove" and all! nancyp: Now we need to find those Scottish roots! I have some bios from "Paisley" and "Elderslie" near Glasgow. nancyp: I did skip gently over PA, of course, but it's fun to look at Scotland, anyway. nancy2: Daniel married Sarah McIntaffer of the Buckeye state. Jacob was the eldest son and was reared in Penn township . was a member of co d 6th Michigan volunteers infantry. nancy2: Wounded in the upper right leg at the battle of Port Hudson 5-27-1863 then became assistant cook so he would'nt have to go to the hospital nancy2: Hey Nancyp, my dad had a plaque with that on it down in his house boat nancyp: Nancy2: My mom likes that one, too! nancy2: marrid miss Emily J Rivers 11-28-1865 nancyp: Is this the same page of Cass Co "JACOB McINTOSH McINTOSH,McINTAFFER,CHASE,RIVERS,LINK On the roll of pioneer settlers of Cass county appears the name of Jacob McIntosh and his personal qualities and life of activity entitle him nancyp: Typed "McIntosh McIntaffer": http://www.rootsweb.com/~micass/cassixm.htm nancy2: He is also the patentee of a ratchet gate a was in general use in Cass co and other counties of Michigan and also in Illinois. I love the way history was told. nancy2: Boy you just love to see goosebumps don"t you? nancyp: "position of prominence that is uniformly accorded him. He resides on section 33, Penn township, not far from the place of his birth, which was on section 32 of the same township, his natal day being March 15, 1840. nancyp: nancy2: Goosebumps! Another favorite motto! RonA: pat, did you seen my question about German a few minutes ago? Pat: If you use Netscape, you can make up filters to stop those SnoWhite, etc. things from coming into your computer - they will automatically delete. Go to Edit, Message Filters and do it from there. nancy2: Daughter minnie B married Dr Don A Link. Son J Howard of Chicago (otherwise ka grampa grampa to me) Pat: Yes, Ron - I saw the German name - I'll see if I can find anything. nancyp: "helpmate on lifeÆs journey he chose Miss Emily J. Rivers, to whom he was married on the 28th of November, 1865. RonA: oh ok,, thanks,, no rush.... RonA: Liz would be more interested than I would.... but we can pass anything on to her. nancy2: No nancyp I don't have McIntaffer, chase, river, link stuff anywhere nancyp: "Re: gen obadiah german/ Walter GERMAN" A GERMAN surname genforum: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?walter::german::313.html nancy2: Okay nancyp you're scaring me now. Are you like finishing sentences for me. some stuff you say I don't have and some I do. I'm very confused. nancyp: nancy2: That looked slightly different, maybe a repeated page. nancyp: nancy2: That was the Cass Co genweb tho, so maybe just another variation. nancyp: Can you still see the webpage address? http://www.rootsweb.com/~micass/cassixm.htm Pat: I don't see anything so far on the German name but I'll keep it in mind when I go through the book again tomorrow. The closest I've come is "Fritz!" nancyp: Hi Trickydick! Could we have your real name? That helps alot... Pat: Hi Trickydick! Is this your first time here? If so, go to Options and change the posting frequency from 5 to 20 - it will keep the screen from jumping around. nancy2: I'm going to continue with the McIntosh family but my mothers family, I have very little info. Her name was Marian Beadle and she came from Detroit Michigan, I think Grandpa was Volney Beadle. Pat: If he says his last name is Nixon, I don't know if I will believe him or not! RonA: thanks for GERMAN, nancy RonA: thanks Pat for checking... nancyp: Here's a BEADLE genforum: http://genforum.genealogy.com/beadle trickydick: Trickydick is Dick Martin from Vancouver nancy2: how do I make that squiggly line after the / before micass? Pat: Hi Dick Martin - what can we do for you this evening? Cheryl: Wasn't Dick Martin on "Laugh-in?" nancyp: That's a "tilde" - mine is a SHIFT character in the top left corner of the keyboard. RonA: hi Dick trickydick: Trickydick is just here to listen and learn. nancy2: You bet your bippy nancy2: found it, thank you nancyp: Dick Martin: What names are you researching? trickydick: Yes. That was me. They just look at me and laugh. Pat: Dick - we usually talk about various problems in our own genealogy you know, those brick walls we can't get over - or the rocks we can't turn over. I have several of them myself! Nancy is a real whiz at finding internet sites to help you. nancyp: Here's a Gen Beadle:"One famous BEADLE that is buried here in Riverside Cemetery is General William Henry Harrison Beadle nancyp: Nancy2: That was in the BEADLE genforum. Cheryl: I was "one of the Jones girls" and then I changed to another common name, Young. By the way, most people were way past us Joneses ... we had to try keeping up with them! trickydick: I'm not searching right now, just looking in. nancy2: Oh my gosh, I just found this old scrapbook and there is a picture of mr & mrs J R Beadle on their golden anniversary. Just says August 15, no year nancyp: Ron can tell you "No Laughing" No matter what! RonA: you bet nancy... lol Pat: Did I tell you that we have definitely identified one of the old pictures I brought back from Texas as Benjamin Pepper and his firt wife, Rebecca Baker? I'm going to eventually send it to one of their descendants as my Uncle Bill McKee, married to Susie Pepper, had no children. I want to give it to someone in their family to pass on. Rebecca died in 1868 so this is an OLD picture! nancy2: Mr & Mrs. Randall Beadle of Alma, Miss Grace C Beadle of Spokane, Wa RonA: dick, were your parents Albert & Yvonne Cheryl: Brick walls ... goose bumps ... everything I had on my James Bernhardt JONES didn't show the "Bernhartd" so one recent Sunday I was researching at the LDS library and just ran James JONES. WOW! There was a James Jones born in Breconshire, Wales, actually the record was for his christening which occurred three days later than the date of birth I have for him. nancy2: James Rix Beadle, Civil war veteran from Grandville , married Carrie Hataaway of St Johns. RonA: I guess our Dick has left us nancyp: Oops, just found a nice MARTIN genforum, too: http://genforum.genealogy.com/martin nancy2: These are all little newspaper articles in this old ledger book scrapbook. It may make searching a littler easier. RonA: off to have some coffee with carolynn.. thanks for the visit........ nancyp: nancy2: If Charles logs in from Spokane, you might ask him some questions. He was logging in from Idaho last week! nancyp: Gnight Ron! Remember, no laughing! Cheryl: Bye, Ron Pat: Goodnight Ron - see you later. RonA: you mean NICE......... oh,,,never mind.... LOL Pat: Cheryl - I have two other Jones in my family, both on my dad's side. My dad's brother, Will McKee, married Myrtle Jones and my great uncle, Bob Hardy, married Coral Jones. nancy2: This book is fabulous, there are all kinds of newspaper pieces cut out and nancy2: darn, did it again. pasted in it. Old old poems, sayings , helpful hints from I have no idea how long ago. Cheryl: Where did your Jones relations come from? nancy2: Even some pages on Dreams and definitions of same nancy2: There is even a Bathing In A Mackerel Tub signed by Bill Nye in script nancyp: Nancy2: Did you ever find anything about BOIVIN land in the Clark Co Courthouse? Cheryl: Dreams ... definitions ... I usually dream a lot, about frustrating things that wear me out. nancyp: Ooops, I got distracted from the newspapers there. Thinking about land somehow! nancyp: Maybe I'm dreaming that I will find the land records in PA that I need, too! Cheryl: Pat, have you ever heard much about the Horns before they came to Washington State from Wisconsin? nancy2: No, the Auditor has gotten a ruling from the Prosecuting Attorneys office about in house researching and we are not allowed back where the hand written files are. They do not have enough employees to do the kind of research I want and suggested I go to a title company because they HAVE to records back to the beginning of the County. Pat: I checked out what I have on Aunt Myrtle. She was Myrtle Grace Jones, daughter of Daniel Jones, b. 1859 in Wales and Elliza Gehres, b. 1865 Ind. Coral Gertrude Jones was the daughter of Oscar Jones, b. Lena IL; granddaughter of Samuel Jones, b. NY and he was the son of Peter Jones of NY. nancyp: Tried "HORN Wisconsin": Found query: "Mina Ostergard Tue May 6 01:05:19 1997 I am looking for information on the surnames: Horn, Grigsby, Lawton, and Kennedy. Charles W Horn was born on April 17, 1854 in New Berlin, WI Cheryl: Do I understand this correctly then ... the two Jones girls weren't related? nancyp: That was on an old query page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimilwau/query01.htm Pat: No - the two Jones girls weren't related except by marriage to my uncle and to my great uncle (my grandmother's brother). nancy2: There was an Albert Horn who lived off of the old old hwy 99, his wife's name was Irma Pat: I have Gustav born in Minnesota but nothing else. Cheryl: Charles Horn - I will check on this. A sibling of Gustave Wm was Charles and his DOB might be in error - I have had 1864, maybe it was actually 1854 - will do more research. nancyp: Here's another one for Ron. I tried "CHELLMAN" and found a Swede: >http://www.genealogy.com/genealogy/users/c/h/e/Charles-C -Chellman/?Welcome=994994432 Pat: Cheryl - was Albert any relation to your family? I just have Gustav as a son, and don't have any other children listed. nancyp: Chellman page says:"About Our Family Research I have just started researching my family tree. I am only in the 8th grade and this is part of an English assignment. I am trying to research as far back Cheryl: Albert Horn, 1910-1965 -- grandson of August and Amelia (Knute) Horn - yes, a relation. Yes, Gustave was born in MN per my records also, but not sure where. His siblings born in Prussia or Clark Co. nancyp: "I am trying to research as far back as I can possibly go. I do know that my Father's Father family came from Sweden nancyp: "Charles Cody Chellman 2830 Ben Green Road Lebanon, Tennessee 37090 United States (615) 444-1439 nancy2: Albert had two daughters one Carol but do not remember the others. His wife Irma is related to my former mother-in-law who is still a mother to me. nancyp: His e-mail: chellman@lebanon.total-web.net Cheryl: In fact, August and Lotte HORN (both born Hanover, GER); son, August Wm HORN 1837-1927 md Mary Amelia (Knute). I found them on 1880 Clark Co census and possibly on Oshkosh, WI 1880 census with some of same children and also others I don't find in WA. Very confusing. nancyp: Chellman in NY: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/NYNIAGAR/2000-12/0976473712 Cheryl: I have two daughters for Albert Fred HORN and Irma E. -- Gail and Carol (the one you mention), but no information to speak of on the family, especially daughters. Here goes that "small world" again, nancy2. Verneice: Hello everyone, Maybe the family was in WI in January when they took the census and then moved west later as some of the censuses were not taken until June or July. Cheryl: I looked at notes on Albert re: death and probate record notes - Gail's last name was STARR. nancy2: That's them. Gail married Rick Starr had two children., divorced. I heard Carol got married but have lost touch. Can get more info from Grace who is Irmas sister if someone wants. Pat: Cheryl and I are related through the Soden family. My grandmother and Cheryl's great grandma were sisters. Cheryl: The 1880 Oshkosh, Winnebago, WI census was dated 9 Jun and for whatever reason, I don't have a date on the WA Clark Co. census, but this is what I thought, too. Cheryl: nancy2 - yes, I wouldn't mind having more information on relatives - my e-mail address is cayoung@ados.com Pat: Cheryl - it looks like I have a lot of family info to get from you to fill in the blank spaces in my family tree program. nancyp: Hi Verneice! Cheryl: Yes, I know -- in fact, I was looking over a note the other day and remembered that I need to get Zachary's information to you - born 2 Jun 1997 in Portland, OR (St. Vincents Hospital). nancy2: The thing is, at all of the family get togethers there were never any other Horns there, I thought was strange but never asked. I do know that Albert was known as quite a heavy imbiber and the rest of the family (mom and daughters) were embarrased by it so they may have excluded other family for that reason. Cheryl: Pat, I guess we need that family reunion again, huh! nancyp: Is that Ron back again? I found a kid with a CHELLMAN page for you. nancyp: Maybe he left his computer going? Pat: Right Cheryl - it might be a good thing to think about for next year. We could do some planning ahead of time instead of just throwing it together like last time. I'm glad I brought those family scrapbooks or we wouldn't have had much going on. There would be lots of things that we could do. Pat: I think Ron just left his computer running. Verneice: Hello Nancy, I want to come to the P I this weekend and attend the Antique Road show. Also there is a Rock Show at Cascade Locks this weekend. Pat: When Helen was living, the only choice we had was the Coos Bay area but now we can go anyplace we want. Cheryl: I still have a video tape somewhere also that might be fun to watch and our cousin in CA sent me a copy of a video, too, as I recall. Yes, it would take at least a year to do it up right. Pat: I still have that video tape, too. That could stand a lot of improvement also! nancyp: I sent Ron a note about the CHELLMAN page, just in case. Cheryl: I remember having family reunions at Leverich Park many years ago with Great Grandma Sylvia Soden Horn and family -- those were the days! I can get the Community Hall free of charge also in Columbia City. Pat: I have a family reunion on the 21st - have to find all my stuff for it . . . it's around here somewhere! Pat: I think FREE is a very good price. I'm for that. Cheryl: On the McKee side or ??? nancyp: We're still hearing more about HYLAND cousins, and tons more photos now, too, after the reunion! Pat: No, ours is the Bauer/Bower reunion on Don's side. Actually, it's the Bower reunion and we join them but they all originate from the original BAUER family. nancy2: When we first moved out here from Michigan we stayed in a trailer park above Leverich Park ( waaaay before the freeway broke it up) and the park was our favorite place to play. Lots of downed trees to walk on, just plain fun. Cheryl: The park is still there, isn't it? It's been awhile since I've been there. Or, did you mean the trailer park was broken up by the freeway? Verneice: Nancy2, did you ever go down the long slide on waxed bread wrappers? Cheryl: We also had family reunions at the Pythian Home in Vancouver, too. We used to have such a great time. nancy2: WHEEEEEEEEE. Ah the good old days when things were safe to do Cheryl: Yes, safe and happy! nancy2: When I was growing up the Pythian Home was the "house" I wanted my mom and dad to buy. That was before I knew what it was of course. Verneice: You mean the days when you got all skinned at the bottom and just got scrubbed with soap and water and tried all over again. nancyp: Hi Sandra! How are you? nancy2: Scrubbed with SOAP and water? Sandra: I just came in from outside. Didn't know it was so late. Cheryl: I thought of it almost like a castle at times. I loved the long sloping walkway up to Grandma Horn's room on the second floor. My grandmother (Cora) lived there for awhile before moving to Retsil, WA where her last husband took her (a Veterans' Home). nancy2: Loved the Covington House, it was right next door. nancyp: Sandra - sure is a nice evening, looking at the sky past the butterfly bush and feeling the nice air through the window! nancy2: Cora is a very familier name. Pat: Retsil was where my grandma Mathys died. Cheryl: I had forgotten that one -- Covington House - wouldn't have remembered the name. Sandra: I wonder if the rabbits would eat a butterfly bush if I planted one? Cheryl: I think there's a Soden buried in Retsil, but I've never looked for the grave. nancyp: Sandra: I've got rabbits in the blackberry bushes, and they didn't eat the butterfly bush. nancy2: Cheryl, we used to be able to cross main street to walk to Lincoln school Pat: That area where the trailer park was near Leverich Park has really changed. I was commenting today that our grandparents wouldn't believe this area if they came back for a "visit." Pat: Where was Tom Soden buried? I think he died at Retsil, too. Pat: OH, the Covington House is still there and it's such a neat little place. We had our Heritage Teas there for CCGS. It's quaint but updated just enough to make it comfortable - such as with indoor plumbing, A/C and heat! nancy2: You got that right. The only things that I recognize anymore, is the old State Hwy bldg across the street and Covington House oh and the house on the corner of 39th & Main Sandra: Does the butterfly bush like to be in the sun all day? Cheryl: I also have very fond memories of Ridgefield and the countryside. I would stay with Grandma (Cora) (married to Earl Stinson at that time). Pat: Thomas Soden died at Retsil in 1964 and is apparently buried there. He was married 5 times! nancy2: I lived in Ridgefield but spent most of my time in the country with one friend or another. Town of Ridgefield was like a morgue on the weekends especially after the movie theatre and the bowling alley closed. nancyp: Here's a SODEN notice in Bremerton: http://www.thesunlink.com/local/milestones/july2000.html nancyp: That was for WELLS SODEN age 71 Verneice: Cheryl, were any of the Stinsons from NE? Pat: Cheryl - have you ever been in contact with Rock Soden's granddaughter in Olympia? I wonder if her dad is still living? He was in very frail health the last time I talked with her and she never answers my notes so I quit sending her stuff. Cheryl: Thomas William SODEN (fourth wife Marie Christina Anderson) died in Retsil, but you're ahead of me on this one. I haven't much else on him. I'll look at the Soden notice, thanks nancyp. Pat: When did you live in Ridgefield Nancy2? We lived there from 1949 until 1953 when my husband worked for the Reflector. Then we moved to Vancouver until 8 1/2 years ago when we moved back to a Ridgefield address again. We're actually in the Salmon Creek area but our mailing address is Ridgefield. nancyp: Here's a page by CHEEVER that says thanks to Pat Bauer: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1006/ncheever.html Pat: I have Tom's obit if you want it. I thought Chrissy Anderson was his first wife. Cheryl: I don't know much about the Stinsons, but for some reason, NE sounds familiar. No, need info on Olympia cousin. Pat, you're proably right about Chrissy. yes, please on the obit. I am rushing and may be getting a couple things wrong. And look at the time. Pat: Yes, those are our relatives - the Cheevers - from way, way back and on Kate Belden Soden's side. nancy2: 1950 to 1968, Mom and dad lived there until 1995 then moved them to Salmon Creek. Mom was one of the telephone switchboard operators until they switched to dial. Still remember our phone number 46j. nancyp: Well folks, I'd better go out and see what the kids are doing and the sunset looks like from the porch! Gnight all! Pat: Cheryl - those are your Cheever relatives, too. The Beldens are on that page. I have pictures of Seth, Meriwether Lewis Belden, etc. on the walls in my computer room. nancy2: How time flies. gnight Cheryl: Been quite a night! Thanks all, for the conversation and the information. Bye for now. Cheryl: Pat, I wondered how that room was looking and if any space was left on the walls since I was last there. Pat: I've added a few more pictures and still have room for a few more. There's always the ceiling! Pat: It looks like it's time to lock the door. Goodnight everyone until next week. It's been fun. Verneice: Good nite all Cheryl: All right, go for it Pat! Goodnight
