I just received a link about the successful DNA testing in Edinburgh this weekend!
at
http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/the-gathering.aspx
DNA testing - the talk of the Scottish Gathering of the Clans
One of the 47,000 participants at The Gathering 2009, the largest assembly of Scottish
Clans ever, Tom MacDonald travelled from Australia to Scotland, and one of the
highlights of his trip was to have a DNA test to try and prove his connection to the
MacDonald of Sleat.
Houston based Family Tree DNA, the pioneer and largest DNA testing company, was a
sponsor and official DNA testing organization at The Gathering 2009, which saw 130
Clans participating in Highland Games during the weekend of the 25th and 26th of July
at the Holyrood Park in Edinburgh.
Like Tom, thousands had the opportunity to learn about genetic genealogy, either by
listening to the presentations or by learning directly from Bennett Greenspan and Max
Blankfeld, the heads of Family Tree DNA, about how a DNA test could help them
connect to others and verify relationships..."

different than my brother's

Elder family tree

Dear Nancy:
My 93 year old father is visiting for a few weeks from Pgh, PA. and we
decided to do a little research about his family of origin. I learned
via a little bit of googling and the LDS site that his mother, Rebecca
Elder, was one of 12 children from the Inch Island, Ireland Elder
family. (Rebecca Steel and Samuel Elder) I learned this through Tira's
web-site. However, I would really like to try to learn more about what
happened to the rest of my dad's mother's sisters who came to the U.S.
I presume many of them married and I have no clue how to find them or
their children or children's children. I am really trying to ascertain
whether my father has any living first cousins. Their names were Hannah
Elder and Lizzy Elder (who my dad once visited in San Francisco in the
30's). Might you be able to help direct me to another way of searching
further?
Thanks,
Shevonne

"While researching my relative Phoebe Maria Gardner Selby (Kinder - Brown) in
Vancouver, I fortunately stumbled on a chat from June of 2007 which provided me with
GREAT information which I did not have previously. This particular transcript had a
great deal about the Selby's but nothing about Phoebe Maria Gardner. If anyone is
interested I have more on her background but don't know how and where to post it."
I also suggested she send the printed material to CCGS to insert in the vertical file.
