They wrote: "RELATIVE GENETICS" - another big DNA company in Utah, announces: "DNA genealogy services formerly provided by Relative Genetics will be offered through Ancestry.com." [in the next several months]. FAQ page on Relative Genetics website, see: http://www.relativegenetics.com/relativegenetics/ancestry_faq.jsp Selections that might affect the ELDER DNA project: "What if I already had my DNA tested with another DNA company other than Relative Genetics?" Ancestry.com will support DNA results provided by other DNA testing companies. While other companies may not test the exact same markers, you can add your results and compare them with others in the Ancestry.com DNA database. Relative Genetics will migrate its customer information to Ancestry.com and the Relative Genetics' Web site will be phased out by the end of 2007. RELATIVE GENETICS company will send all results to Ancestry.com (Except if PRIVACY is chosen on your free account) Ancestry.com plans to begin hosting surname projects beginning fall of 2007. When will Ancestry.com's DNA service become available? Ancestry.com is working hard to add DNA testing services and site integration to their current product. Ancestry.com hopes to have DNA functionality available within the next few months and will be sure to keep you informed on the status of the transition of your DNA results and information. What tests will be offered through Ancestry's DNA service? At launch, Ancestry.com plans to offer both Y chromosome testing for paternal line analysis and mitochondrial DNA testing for maternal line analysis. **** FROM: Nancy Elder Petersen on DATE-Aug 2, 2007 3:34:13 GMT-DATE MESSAGE: Verneice, We all did find alot about those ADAMS families! New genealogy centre to create DNA library GENETICS: FAMILY HISTORY Sunday Herald, The, Oct 29, 2006 by Judith Duffy Health Correspondent ESTABLISHING whether that stranger on the doorstep really is a long-lost cousin has always been tricky - but that is now set to change, thanks to a new genealogy centre in Scotland which will offer DNA testing. Experts at Glasgow Caledonian University are in the process of setting up a unique service which will team up traditional family search services with genetic profiling technology. The centre, which will be launched next year, will help people from around the world trace their Scottish roots and then offer the option of verifying blood relatives through DNA testing. The team also aims to carry out research which will eventually build up a genetic map of the clans of Scotland, allowing people to look into their Celtic ancestry... http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4156/is_20061029/ai_n16810778 FROM: Charles on DATE-Aug 2, 2007 3:24:04 GMT-DATE MESSAGE: cooling down now only 95 today but 80 something tomorrow FROM: PatB on DATE-Aug 2, 2007 3:23:34 GMT-DATE MESSAGE: Charles - that's what I would like to do but it keeps wanting me to load the DejVue file. His adopted son, Clarence, had trained a calf to jump up on people - somewhat like a large dog. The calf continued doing this as she became larger and larger. One day she playfully jumped at Carl Schmidt, knocking him to the ground and causing fatal injuries. The story from the local newspaper is below. Ridgefield, Wash Friday, August 24, 1917 COW BREAKS MAN'S NECK Carl Schmidt died at the family home near Sara on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. On Monday Mr. Schmidt was working in the barnyard when a vicious cow trampled on him breaking his neck. He is survived by a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Anna Gregory, of Ridgefield and Miss Eliza living at home and an adopted son, Clarence. He was 64 years of age. Mr. Schmidt with his family came to this country from Germany in 1888 and has since made his home here. He was a member of the German M.E. Church. Funeral services will be held at the family home today at 10 a.m. Interment will be made in the German cemetery. Services will be in charge of Rev. P.J. Schnert, pastor of the German M.E. Church. We close the door about 9:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. We have lots of visitors who will give you a willing helping hand with your genealogy brick walls. You can enter questions or answers at any time but we hope you will be able to join us when we are open for discussions. BRICK WALL: This query is from Pat Bauer: This brickwall is going to be a tough one to break down but GenChat folks love a challenge! A baby boy born 1902-1904 in Portland was adopted by Carl Schmidt and his wife Matilda, residents of the rural Sara area of Ridgefield. He was possibly adopted at birth. He was given the name Clarence Schmidt. There are no photos of this child and only a little mentioned of him in obituaries of the Schmidt family. The father, Carl Schmidt, was killed by a "pet cow" which young Clarence had raised from a calf. The death occurred Aug 21, 1917. The calf had been trained by Clarence to jump up on him when he went into the barnyard, like a pet dog. He was warned by his adopted mother not to play with the animal in that way because she was going to hurt someone. The cow jumped up on Carl and broke his neck. Clarence is not mentioned in his adopted father's obituary. I've been unable to trace the boy after he became an adult. His birth date, including the year, are unknown. No one that I spoke with in the family knew what had happened to him. The obit for Matilda Schmidt in 1928 mentions him. In the 1910 census he is shown as 8 years old; in the 1920 census he is shown as 16 years old - thus I have his birth year as 1902 - 1904. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
