VINSON M. WEBER

A dentist who was retired from his Vancouver practice and a full professorship at Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry, Vinson M. Weber, 87, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Cascade Park Care Center.

Dr. Weber was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Wauseon, Ohio. He attended Oberlin College on a full scholarship and was a teacher and successful coach before earning his dental degree from Western Reserve University Dental School. A veteran of the Air Force, he moved to historic property along the Columbia River in 1946 and operated a dental practice on the corner of Mill Plain and Reserve for many years.

He enjoyed traveling, spending Christmas in Hawaii, the Trail Blazers, acquiring and developing property, Clark County history, his dog Buba, antiques, and supporting Clark College. He was an award- winning dancer and moved with grace throughout his life. In 1951, he started the Metropolitan Basketball League in which area colleges and universities continue to play.

He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Jane Weber, a respected teacher at Hudson's Bay High School, who died in 1974.

Survivors include one sister, Margaret Weber Umbel of Poland, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Agnes Weber of Ocala, Fla.; one nephew, James M. Weber of Pensacola, Fla.; and three nieces, Carol Weber of Alexandria, Va., and Penny and Sherry Umbel, both of Washington, D.C.

A public memorial service for Mr. Weber will be held when the E. Jane Weber Arboretum is dedicated at Clark College.

Memorial contributions may be made to the E. Jane Weber Arboretum in care of the Clark College Foundation, 1800 E. McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98663.
