Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long does it take to become a member?
A. Once all the work is done to complete an
application and it is sent to Headquarters in Washington
DC, it usually take about 8 weeks before the Genealogist
reviews the application. Once it is approved, then the
application goes to the next National Board of Management
meeting for approval. The dates of the NBM meetings are:
June 25th/July 1st; October 6th;
December 8th 2012 and February 2nd
2013.
Q. How much does it cost to join?
A. It varies by Chapter, based on the dues. For
our chapter it costs $125 for the initial membership fee.
This includes $75 for the genealogist fee and the balance
is dues for local, State and National.
Q. My relative is/was a member. Can I just join
using her application?
A. The first four generations must be proven in
all cases. If the applicant can connect to a valid
existing application, then the remaining generations
might be provable based on existing information. It is
recommended that the applicant search the GRS
database to learn if the Patriot she wants to use is
already established.
We are more than happy to answer all your
questions about tracing your ancestry to a Patriot, our
Chapter or the DAR, and for more information about
