CHAPTER HISTORY

Organized February 15, 1926, in Bremerton by Organizing Regent Mrs. Cora Burlew, the chapter was named in honor of Lady Elizabeth Ellington. Lady Ellington, who lived in New York at the beginning of the Revolution, laid aside her English title to support the colonists' cause. Local benefactress Angie Weber Harrison was a 30-year member of our chapter and proceeds from the sale of her house and furnishings have funded many chapter projects over the years.

  CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
Community Service Projects

The chapter has awarded full-tuition scholarships totaling more than $75,000 to students attending Olympic College.

We have also provided flag poles and flags to the Kitsap Regional Library, the West Sound Technical Skills Center, the Pendergast Regional Sports Park, and the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce, plus a sound system for the USS Turner Joy, a museum destroyer berthed on the waterfront.

We give yearly supplies to local schools and Olympic College, along with the DAR Magazine and reference books to the Kitsap Regional Library. Large display screens were presented to one of the local schools for use in their library.

A gift of $500 was given for a seat in the auditorium of Keyport's Naval Undersea Museum. A check for $1,000 to purchase more books for the Museum's library was also presented.

Books and DVDs were donated to the ship's library on the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, homeported in Bremerton.

A chapter fund, the Leola Anderson Memorial Indian Scholarship Fund, enables contributions to the National DAR American Indian Scholarship fund.

Donations are also made to Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon.

Chapter Awards Tea

Elizabeth Ellington Chapter holds an Awards Tea each spring to honor the "DAR Good Citizens" selected by the area high schools, plus local JROTC Medalists, the recipients of the Olympic College scholarship, and the winners of the DAR Historic Preservation Medal and DAR Community Service Award.
