"Railroads, Reclamation And the River, A History of Pasco"
- Full Name Index

When I volunteered to become the USGenWeb County Coordinator for Franklin County I knew my work was cut out for me. I had lived in the community for less then a year, and I actually lived in the neighboring Benton County. I thought a book about the history of the county would be necessary – so I went looking for a book on the history of Franklin County. I was amazed that this hunt was more difficult then I anticipated. I tried several local bookstores and I even attempted shopping online. All avenues came up short.

Finally I went to the Franklin County Historical Society and begged for help. Immediately I was introduced to “Railroad, Reclamation And the River, A History of Pasco” by Walter A. Oberst. I devoured the book immediately. I loved the way that Oberst combined facts about the history of Franklin County along with fascinating personal interest stories.

While reading the book I highlighted every name that I read and realized I had a genealogical gem on my hands. Oberst does not get into who is married to whom, but he gives wonderful stories about many individuals. Click on the letter below that starts the surname you are looking for. After the window opens, use Ctrl-F to search for your surname. I have tried to keep these files short enough to scroll through in the case that your surname spelling has changed over the years.

Here are the basic rules I used while indexing this book.
1. All titles have been dropped. There are no Captain, Colonel, or Dr. Each full name is indexed as it appears less these titles.
2. If no first name is given, or can not be derived from the surrounding text, only the last name has been indexed.
3. A * next to the page number means that the name was found in a caption of a photo. It does not mean, necessarily, that a photo of this person is on this page. If a person’s name is mentioned in the caption there is a good chance that the name is also mentioned in the text of the page. Captions of photos include credit to the contributor. These names were not indexed.
4. A woman’s name is indexed just as it is printed. Many women in this book have multiple names (i.e., Alice Hogan West) but they are only indexed under the printed surname (i.e., West).
5. Names of business may be included in index if it could reasonably be assumed that the business was named after a local owner.
6. No other assumptions were made. A name is indexed as it was typed.
