Welcome to King County, Washington's Trails to the Past! My name is Jeanne and I am your host to this site. If you find any broken links, please let me know.
King County was formed in 1852 from Thurston County. It was named initially for William Rufus King, the vice president under Franklin Pierce. However, in 1986, the county name was officially rededicated to Martin Luther King Jr. It is surrounded by Snohomish County, Chelan County, Kittitas County, Yakima County and Pierce County. Kitsap County is across the Puget Sound from King County. The county seat is Seattle.
