Lakota Chapter was organized January 24, 1981, by Mrs. Nancy Schaitel Ingram, who served as Regent through 1982.
Lakota serves a portion of South King County in Washington State that includes the cities of Federal Way, Auburn, Renton, Kent, Covington, and Black Diamond.
The name Lakota means "friends/allies." In 1805 Lewis and Clark came upon the Ongaloga Indians in the Northwest. Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota are all linguistically related to the Teton Sioux tribe.
