Sawamish County was created on March 13, 1854.
On January 3, 1864 the name was changed to Mason County.
This was done to honor the first Secretary of the Washington Territory, Charles H. Mason.
The City of Shelton was incorporated on May 23, 1890
The City of Shelton was named for David Shelton (1812-1897)
