The Robert Gray Chapter was organized in March 1903 in Hoquiam, Washington. The chapter is named after
Capt. Robert Gray, an early explorer of the Pacific Northwest coast.

This plaque is
located on the harbor side in Ocean Shores to the south of the Ocean Shores
Community Club. It reads: "Tradition links this
tree with the name of Captain Robert Gray who on May 7th 1792 entered this
Harbor in his ship Columbia. This tablet was erected in his honor by the Robert Gray
Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution May 7th, 1911. The site was
donated by Mr. A. O. Damon." It should be noted that another sign
relates that the original tree described was blown down during a storm.
