- SACAJAWEA CHAPTER
- was organized by thirteen Olympia women on November 17, 1905. On December 5,
1906, a charter was granted to the chapter by the National Society. The founders
chose the name Sacajawea to honor the courageous Shoshone Indian woman who guided
the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean.
