SGS RESEARCH SERVICES

Please read the following before using our research form.
  • Please use our research form to send us your request for research assistance.  Print either of the following;  Research form (.pdf format)  or  Research form (.html format)
  • Our research assistance is limited to the categories listed on the research form, and includes lookups in materials that are part of the SGS library collections, Seattle-area obituaries, and Seattle City Directories 1890, 1891, 1898, 1900-1993.
  • With each research request, include a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a $10 (SGS members) or $20 (non-members) fee to the Seattle Genealogical Society.  These fees help the society maintain and ensure continued access to our outstanding research library.
  • We will include up to 10 photocopies appropriate to your research request at no additional charge.  Additional page copies 15 cents each.
  • All of our researchers are volunteers. During the summer months and around holidays our response to your request may be slowed by the vacation/travel, family, and usual work commitments of our volunteers. Please be assured, however, that we will respond to your request as quickly as possible.
  • There is no published comprehensive index to Seattle/King County marriages. We are not able to furnish you with marriage dates.  To obtain copies of marriage records go to:
  • King County Marriage Licensing.
  • There is no published comprehensive index to Seattle/King County birth records. We are not able to furnish you with lists of children or their birth dates.  To obtain copies of birth records go to:
  • King County Vital Statistics.
  • We regret that we are unable to do research in courthouse and vital records. We do not have enough volunteers to research or obtain copies of birth, marriage, divorce, death, probate, land, court action or similar records outside of the SGS collection. To obtain copies of personal records held by Seattle/King County go to:
  • King CountyArchives and Records Management.
  • Find out more about personal and genealogical records that are available for Washington state at Washington Center for Health Statistics and Washington History Online.
  • You may obtain a list of professional researchers in the Seattle area, who can provide more extensive research services for a fee,  at
Puget Sound Chapter-Association of Professional Genealogists.
