The Eastside Genealogical Society German Interest Group: The topic will be “Using FamilySearch.org and new.familysearch.org websites” as you research your ancestors. We meet from 1 to 3pm at the Bellevue LDS 1st Ward, 10675 NE 20th St, Bellevue. The meeting room is located adjacent to the Chapel, to the east. Everyone is welcome.

The Eastside Genealogical Society General Meeting: Carolyn Blout from the Fiske Genealogical Library will present “Using Clues in Old Photographs to Help Date Them.” Doors open at 6:30 pm for networking. The Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society presents "When Genealogy Meets Technology," with speakers Cyndi Howells and Emily Aulicino. Cyndi's topics will be "The Internet: A Genealogist's Printing Press" and "Social Networking: A Genealogist's Water Cooler." Emily's topics will be "The Gene in Genealogy" and "Writing Your Childhood and Family Memories: A simple technique." This event will be held at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, 1425 East 27th St, Tacoma. A limited number of rooms will be available at a special rate for seminar attendees. Registration: Before April 21, 2011: Members, $35; Non-Members, $40 (become a member now and save!); Students, $20 (under 25 with Student ID). Lunch (sandwich and salad bar), $17. The Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State presents Natan Meier, the Lorry I. Lokey Assistant Professor of Judaic Studies at Portland State University. He will speak aboutKiev, Jewish Metropolis: A History, 1859-1914. From a small group of merchants in the early 1860s, the Jewish population of Kiev grew by leaps and bounds to become one of the largest Jewish communities in the Russian Empire. This talk will chart this fascinating community's growth, achievements, and challenges - including intra-communal divisions, anti-Semitism and pogroms, and the Beilis Affair. It will also examine the relations among Jews, Ukrainians, and Russians in imperial Kiev, and provide a glimpse into the everyday life of ordinary Jews in a thriving metropolis. Location: Auditorium, Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 East Mercer Way, Mercer Island. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Program starts at 7:00 pm. Free for members; $5.00 for non-members.

The Seattle Genealogical Society presents their Spring 2012 Seminar featuring George G. Morgan, from "The Genealogy Guys Podcast." Morgan will talk about how to develop an ancestry profile, methods for advanced research, and "sidestep genealogy," or creative ways to solve problems. He is the author of 10 books and hundreds of articles published in magazines and on websites, as well as president of Aha! Seminars, Inc., a company that provides continuing education for libraries and genealogical societies around the world. This event will be held at the Museum of History & Industry's McEachern Auditorium, 2700 24th Ave East, Seattle, from 9-3. Cost: $40 for SGS members; $50 for non-members who pre-register by May 11. The Clallam County Genealogical Society will host the Washington State Genealogical Society Annual Conference in Port Angeles on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8, 2012. Conference theme is "Armchair Genealogy from the Pacific Northwest". The keynote speaker will be Brian W. Hutchison, CEO of Gen-Find Research Associates, Inc., Forensic Genealogist, Author and Instructor, and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Check here for the latest details.

Saturday, Sept. 29: 24 concurrent workshops for all levels and interests, 6 professional speakers, and genealogical marketplace of vendors and exhibitors. Sunday, Sept. 30: Historic Kelowna Pioneer Cemetery walking tour. Pre-registration is required. The Puget Sound Genealogical Society will hold their annual seminar, titled "Digging Up Granny, Tracing our Elusive Female Ancestors." Keynote Speaker Tames Alan will present "The Intrpid Victorian Traveler" and "Soldiers in Petticoats - The Struggles of the Suffragettes." In addition to the keynote speaker there will be morning and afternoon classes on various topics including: Finding Vital Records for Women in your Family, Census Records - Tracking your Female Ancestors Through the Decades, Land Records and Property Rights for Women, Putting a Name to a Face- Identifying Women in Photographs, and several other topics. Program will be from 8am - 3:30pm at the First Christian Church, 4885 SW Hovde, Port Orchard. Cost TBD.
