About the Everett Obituary Index Project -

The Everett Obituary Index Project contains death information (obituaries, funeral announcements, cards of thanks, memorials, etc.) gathered from The Everett Daily Herald beginning in 1910 and republished in The Sounder, the Society's quarterly publication.  SIGS can not provide copies of the actual news articles;  the originals can be found in the Everett Public Library's collection of Everett newspapers (on microfilm).

For information on how to obtain a copy of the article in The Sounder which contains the entry you want, email  the Society  -  sigs (AT) alderwood.org  , using "ATTN: SOUNDER OBITS" as the message header.  Be sure to include the SURNAME and GIVEN NAME of the target individual as well as the VOLUME, ISSUE and PAGE NUMBER of The Sounder.

The Sounder publishes new obituaries in each quarterly issue;  the new data lines will then be added to these pages.

A typical index entry -

STRANGE, Florence (Mrs. Joseph; née HALTERMAN) b. ca. 1889; d. 10 Mar 1911 near Oso WA; bur. Snohomish WA; EvH 11 Mar 1911; Sndr 17:2 p. 68

1.  SURNAME, Given Name
2.  BIRTH NAME (in parentheses) - a second data line will read "HALTERMAN (see Florence STRANGE)"
3.  BIRTH INFORMATION (if given in obit)
4.  DEATH INFORMATION
5.  BURIAL INFORMATION (if given in obit)
6.  PUBLISHING INFORMATION - date of publication in Everett Herald
7.  SOUNDER CITATION - Volume Number, Issue Number, Page Number
N.B. - these obituaries, death notices, funeral notices, news articles, etc. were originally published in the Everett Daily Herald.  As you might expect, the vast majority of decedents lived in Snohomish County.  There are, however, entries from neighboring counties, as well as other parts of Washington State.  Remember, not everyone's passing was noted in an obituary or other death notice.

Margaret Robe Summitt, Editor of The Sounder,  created the data file from which these web pages were made.
