SPENCE, Almon I.   Everett.   Born at St. Lawrence, South Dakota, October 23, 1895.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Rossor E. SPENCE, 4302 Hoyt Ave.  Private SPENCE enlisted in Batt. D, 146th F. A., at Walla Walla July 19, 1917.  He trained at Camp Green, Camp Mills and Camp Merritt, and left the United States December 24, 1917 for France, landing at Le Havre January 1, 1918.  He was in the Champagne-Marne offensive from July 15 to July 18, 1918; in the Aisne-Marne from July 18th to August 6th; in the St. Mihiel from September 12th to 16th; and in the Meuse-Argonne from September 26th to November 11th.  He arrived in the United States from France June 15, 1919.  Private, first class.  Discharged at Camp Lewis June 29, 1919.  138,467.


SPENCE, Rossor E. Jr.  Everett.  Born August 25, 1897, at St. Lawrence, South Dakota.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Rossor E. SPENCE, 4302 Hoyt Ave.  Enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps at Everett April 15, 1917, and trained at Mare Island and Quantico.  He went to France as a member of the 49th Co., 5th Regt., 2d Division, and was with the famous 5th Regiment in its battles in France.  He escaped injury in battle until November 10, 1918, when he was sounded in the right arm and left foot.  Discharged at Quantico, Virginia, August 13, 1919.  He attended the Everett high school from 1913 to 1917.

SPENCE, Fred C.  Everett.  Born at St. Lawrence, South Dakota, July 29, 1899.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Rossor E. SPENCE, 4302 Hoyt Ave.  Private SPENCE enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps at Everett April 15, 1917.  He trained at Mare Island and Quantico; and arrived at St. Nazaire, France, August 18, 1917, with Base Bn., 5th Marines.  He served in the 47th Co., 5th Regt., 2d Division in three of their engagements with the enemy.  Discharged at Quantico, August 13, 1919.  270,924. Brother of Rossor E. SPENCE, Jr., 49th Co., U. S. M. C., and Almon I. SPENCE, 146th F. A.

PETERSON, Peter J.  Stanwood.  Born at Stanwood.  Entered the service June 27, 1918, at Port Townsend at the age of 26 years.  He served in the 117th Spruce Sqdn. A. S. A. P.  Discharged at Vancouver Barracks January 6, 1919.  3,140,597.

ALLEN, Archie.  Everett.  Served 2 years in the Canadian army and on October 16, 1917, received serious wounds which caused a total paralysis of the right side.

BRADSHAW, Lee.  Everett.  Born at Cabool, Missouri.  Entered the service from Everett, March 29, 1918, at the age of 30 years, 1 month.  He went to France as a member of Co. D, 362d Inf., 91st Division.  He was with that division in reserve at St. Mihiel and was in the Meuse-Argonne offensive September 26, 1918.  He received a gunshot wound in the right leg in the latter battle.  Discharged at the United States General Hospital No. 26, Des Moines, Iowa, July 2, 1919.  2, 261,097.

LANDERS, Clarence E.  Everett.  Born August 8, 1896 at Machias.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles LANDERS, 1817 Lombard.  Entered Camp Lewis June 25, 1918, and from there he was transferred to Camp Fremont where he became a member of Co. K, 8th Inf., 8th Division.  He went to France with the 8th Inf., shortly before the armistice was signed.

POWELL, John H.  Everett.  Son of Mrs. Hattie POWELL, R. F. D. 1, Everett.  Private POWELL, after registering on June 5, 1917, went to India to attend to business matters, and returned from that country to enter the army.  The San Francisco Call and Post of March 7, 1918, contained the following notice regarding his long journey to enlist: “John Henry POWELL can lay claim to be Uncle Sam’s long distance recruit.  He came all the way from India to San Francisco to volunteer for fighting service.  He was enlisted in the 319th Engrs. today.”

HARVISON, Lieut. David B.  Index.  Born November 18, 1863, at Morrison, Ill.  Commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps, September 12, 1918, and was stationed at Fort Scott, California and Fort Stevens, Oregon.  In November, 1918, he accompanied a train of troops to Camp Merritt.  Discharged December 5, 1918 and has since been appointed in the Reserved Medical Sec. as a first lieutenant.  Graduated from Ida Grove, Iowa, high school.  Graduated from the Bennett Medical College in 1893 and from the Cook County Hospital in 1895.

SAXTON, Lieut. Roy L.  Everett.  Born at Everett April 7, 1894.  Son of Mrs. Ellen SEXTON.  Lieutenant SEXTON enlisted in 12th Co. February 5, 1917, and went to Fort Casey with the company as a duty sergeant.  He later won a commission in the coast artillery.  Upon his discharge he accepted a position in Seattle.

DIFFLEY, Thomas J.  Everett. Born January 29, 1899 at Everett.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas DIFFLEY, 2519 Colby Ave.  Private DIFFLEY enlisted in 12th Co. February 26, 1917, and served for a time in the company at Fort Casey.

DOUGLAS, Corp. Archibald.  Everett.  Born December 31, 1899 at London, England.  Enlisted in 12th Co April 21, 1917, and served in France with Battery D and Artillery.  Discharged at Camp Lewis, March 21, 1919.  Corporal DOUGLAS also served in Co. F, 2d Washington Inf. N. G. in 1916.

MATHENY, Hollis G.  Index.  Born at Fort Rippley, Minnesota.  Private MATHENY entered the army through Snohomish September 5, 1918, at the age of 21 years.  From September 9, 1918, until September 27th he was with the Recruit Camp, Camp Fremont; from September 27, 1918, to October 17th he was a member of Co. D, Casual Camp, Camp Fremont; from January 16, 1919, until discharged he was a member of the 44th Co., 166th D. B. at Camp Lewis.  Discharged at Camp Lewis, January 31, 1919.  4,711,789.
