Charles Marion BlackBLACK, Corp. Charles Marion.  Everett.   Born at Courtland [Kansas] April 3, 1886.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam R. BLACK, R. F. D. No. 1, Everett.  Corporal BLACK entered Camp Lewis through Snohomish, November 3, 1917.  He was transferred November 18th to Co. I, 162d Inf., 41st Division at Camp Mills.  After reaching France he was transferred to Co. L, 126th Inf., 32d Division, May 3, 1918.  Two weeks later he entered the Alsace sector and was in that sector from May, 1918, to July 1919 [sic].   He entered the Soissons sector July 28th and on July 30th was transferred to the Château-Thierry sector.   He was in action on the Ourcq July 30th and his company was relieved August 7th after capturing Fismes.   On August 28th he entered the Soissons sector as a part of MANGIN’s 10th Army.   He and his squad went over the top on the morning of August 31th, in the fight for Juvigny.   Corporal BLACK was caught in a communication trench covered by enemy machine gun fire and he was severely wounded in the right thigh, dying soon afterward.   In the battle at Juvigny on August 31th, Corporal BLACK’s company suffered severely, only 13 coming out alive.   He was made corporal August 8, 1918.   He was a brother of Perry M. BLACK.



BLACK, Perry M.  Everett.   Born at Courtland, Kansas, February 5, 1891.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam BLACK, R. F. D. 1, Everett.   Wife, Mabel E. BLACK.   Private BLACK enlisted in the Army July 24, 1918, going to Camp Lewis, where he was placed in the 40th Co., 166th D. B.   On August 15th he was transferred to Camp Fremont and assigned to Co. L, 13th Inf., 8th Division.   He left Camp Fremont October 18th for Camp Mills, where he remained until December 1th, then going to Camp Merritt.   On December 10th he was transferred to the Hqrs. Co., 13th Infantry.   He arrived at Camp Lewis April 4, 1919, and was discharged April 5, 1919.   Private, first class. 3,650,360.   Private BLACK is a brother of Charles Marion BLACK, 126th Infantry, killed in action in France.   He is a member of the firm of BLACK & KING, 2930 Colby Ave.   Harold B. KING, the other member of the firm, was also in the service.
