  1. USING THE ONLINE HOLDINGS CATALOG -

This Online Holdings Catalog is a searchable list of all of the resources held by the Shoreline Family History Center. The Catalog is arranged the same way as the Family History Library Catalog found at familysearch.org - TOPICS appear first, followed by LOCALITIES. An example: in the Germany Collection, general topics like GAZETTEERS and EMIGRATION are followed by individual German states.

    Information about each resource -

TRACING: a word or short phrase which gives the "subject" or "catalog heading" for the resource

    TITLE/CONTENT: title may be shortened

RESOURCE NUMBER: for most microfilm and microfiche, this is the number assigned by the Family History Library Catalog.

    • 0xxxxxx - microfilm on indefinate loan (FHL catalog number)
    • 1xxxxxx - microfilm on indefinate loan (FHL catalog number)
    • 2xxxxxx - microfilm on indefinate loan (FHL catalog number)
    • 3xxxxxx - microfilm donated by patrons
    • 5xxxxxx - books (includes dictionaries)
    • 55xxxxx - periodicals
    • 6xxxxxx - microfiche from Salt Lake City (FHL catalog number)
    • 8xxxxxx - microfiche donated by patrons
    • 9xxxxxx - compact disk

LOCATION - where you can find the resource in the Family History Center. Special Note - the book and periodical collections are being rearranged and renumbered. Please be patient if you can't find a particular book "where it's supposed to be".

  2. FINDING RESOURCES AT THE FHC -

The FHC has four rooms available to patrons.

The first room a patron enters is the Reception Room (Room 1); this is where the sign-in clipboard can be found. The SURNAMES and BIOGRAPHICAL COLLECTIONS are located here, as well as part of the PERIODICALS COLLECTION.

The Microfilm/Microfiche Reader Room (Room 2) has microfilm and microfiche readers and reader/printers, a large conference table, the cabinet holding the MICROFICHE COLLECTION and part of the MICROFILM COLLECTION (in the B Cabinet) and the BOOK COLLECTION dealing with LOCALITIES. You can find DICTIONARIES, WORD LISTS and LANGUAGE AIDS here. OVERSIZED books are found to the right of the MICROFILM READER/PRINTER.

Room 3 ("The Middle Room") has four internet-ready computers with printers. The A CABINET holds part of the MICROFILM COLLECTION. Feel free to browse both A and B microfilm cabinets!

The Computer Room (Room 4) holds 4 internet-ready computers with printers and the CD COLLECTION.

BE SURE to let staff know if this is your first visit to our Center!

(Thank you to FHC librarian Miss Cathy for creating the "floor plan")

  3. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE MICROFILM OR MICROFICHE NUMBER -

If you've used the FHL catalog (on FamilySearch.org), and want to know if the Shoreline FHC has a copy of a particular film or fiche, you can use the FILM/FICHE NUMBER SEARCH PAGE. This list is NUMBERS ONLY - no titles are given.

  4. HOLDINGS CATALOG UPDATES -

New titles are added to the collection (usually) on Wednesday afternoons. The off-line version of the Holdings Catalog ("The Notebook Version") is updated on that day. Obviously, this ONLINE version can't be updated as easily!

Throughout this online version you will see . This icon will take you to a WHAT'S NEW page which should be fairly current.
