What are Queries?
Queries, in genealogical publications, have traditionally been similar to classified ads. They are short paragraphs, with specific details about a person or family, usually complete with a specific question or "query" about that person or family. These days, queries are published in magazines, newsletters, journals, newspapers, e-mail mailing lists and on web sites. The queries found here on the TPCGS web site are submitted by members and non-members who have research in this area of the world. The queries submitted are published in the society's quarterly and on this web site. If you are looking for research help besides this type of query, see the following pages for further options:

Non-members who are doing research in the Tacoma-Pierce County area prior to 1930 may send queries which will be published at the discretion of the Queries Editor. In the 1889 Territory Census they were shown with Laura 18, Charles 16, David 13, and Arthur 8. Elizabeth died in 1892 and is buried in Sumner, Pierce Co., WA. Charles committed suicide over death of betrothed in 1893. Levi is shown with Delia and Arthur in 1896 Tacoma Directory. Levi and Elizabeth had 12 ch; other known ch are Alice, Ellen, Nancy, George Benjamin, Catherine, and possibly Ada N.

George Benjamin WILCOX (son of Levi WILCOX and Elizabeth ALKIRE) mar Rebecca Jane DAUGHERTY/DOUGHERTY; are listed in the same census as above but as separate household with Minnie, William James/James William and Mabel S; later sons were George and Earl (who may have had a twin). 1900 Census in Pierce Co. WA shows Rebecca was mother of 6 ch.

"Kitty" (Catherine L.) WILCOX (dau of Levi WILCOX and Elizabeth ALKIRE) mar l) --?--THORPE and 2) to Jay STILLMAN 24 July 1888 in Pierce Co., WA. In 1893 she had a dau Mrs. PARNELL who is mentioned in obituary of Kitty's brother, Charles WILCOX. Could Mrs. PARNELL be the former Odelia THORPE, dau of Kitty's first marriage? Kitty also ran a millinery in downtown Tacoma in early 1900's for several years according to city directories.
