What are Queries?
Queries, in genealogical publications, have traditionally been similar to classified ads. They are short paragraphs, with specific details about a person or family, usually complete with a specific question or "query" about that person or family. These days, queries are published in magazines, newsletters, journals, newspapers, e-mail mailing lists and on web sites. The queries found here on the TPCGS web site are submitted by members and non-members who have research in this area of the world. The queries submitted are published in the society's quarterly and on this web site. If you are looking for research help besides this type of query, see the following pages for further options:

Non-members who are doing research in the Tacoma-Pierce County area prior to 1930 may send queries which will be published at the discretion of the Queries Editor. Need info on father and son, both named Fritz/Frederick WOLF. Fritz, Sr. was b 1842 in Schoeppenstedt, Germany; came to US in 1866 and m (1) in NY Emma EILERS. Son Fritz b ca 1870 in NY, dau Louise b 1874 in Colorado. Emma d before 1880. Fritz m (2) Hermina THEIS who res with Arthur EILERS family as tutor; Arthur was Louise's uncle and she res with them while Fritz, Sr. worked in a CO mining camp. Where was Fritz, Jr.? By 1900 Fritz, Sr. was in CA and res mostly in San Francisco area until 193l. Fritz, Jr. was in 1920 Census of Arizona. Did he ever marry? Whose dau was the Mrs. B. Need more info on Minnie ROBERTS VANDERVEGT, b 28 March 1890 in Cleburne, TX, dau of James Thomas ROBERTS and Effie Lee HARRIS. Her siblings: Archie L., May Belle, Loney, Lee W., (Minnie), Boyd Hudlow, and Beulah. The family moved from Texas to WA sometime about 1900. Minnie m about 1909 in WA to a Mr. Laurence (spelling found in obituary, d 14 April 1964 at Everett, WA. ). According to 1907 school census in Tacoma, Minnie was working for Nellie and Alfred LAWRENCE. By 1920 she was res in Tacoma with her m Effie ROBERTS and her two ch: Walter LAURENCE (b 1911 in WA) and Thelme VANDERVEGT (b 1917 in CA); Minnie was using VANDERVEGT name at that time; she was apparently m to Henry who was from Holland. By 1931 Minnie was in CA as Minnie CARPENTER; she also res in Spokane, WA, with that name. Need more info on the husband's for Minnie. Please help.

Searching for proof with sources that Joan HURST, wife of John TILLEY of the 1620 Mayflower, was or was not the blood mother of Elizabeth TILLEY, dau. of John TILLEY and wife of John HOWLAND. So far cannot find birth record of Elizabeth naming mother. John & Joan ROGERS HURST TILLEY* d. 1621 the first winter in new world. (John TILLEY d. 10 Apr. 1621). Eliz. (TILLEY) HOWLAND Bap. 1607 but find no record of siblings b. in the 11 yrs. between John & Joan's marr. date (1596, if correct) & 1607. Was Eliz. bap. many yrs. after her birth? Need help sorting out conflicting data in re. Richard WEBB and dau. Sarah. Most records say Sarah is natural dau. of Richard. According to "Memorial His. of Hart. CT" Sarah was adopted by Richard after her father, Rev. Samuel Stone drowned. Can anyone help with sources as to truth or fiction of this story? Also need help in sorting out conflicting birth yrs. and places for Richard WEBB II and women named as his wives. Richard b. 9 Jan. 1611 (one date given) Dorset?, Eng. Looking for information on the family of Matilda FOWLER b. in 1835 Ohio? She m. Isaac SMITH in 1851 Tama Co., Iowa. The couple went to Calif. for a few years & returned to Iowa. Isaac Smith served in Civil War and died in Iowa in 1865. Matilda had a twin brother named William FOWLER and a brother Alex FOWLER. Both resided in Tama Co., Iowa for awhile. Matilda also m. men by names of SMALL and WERNER. She resided in Calhoun Co., Iowa at death in 1917. Her mother was named Phebe FOWLER and she died in Tama Co., Iowa. Matilda & Isaac had 2 children who lived. William R. SMITH and James Wesley Addison SMITH.

Who is baby BURKE buried next to Elizabeth (nee ALKIRE) WILCOX in the WELLER plot in Sumner, WA, cemetery? Is this child of Laura and Daniel BURKE? If so, Elizabeth ALKIRE WILCOX would be grandmother. What is connection of ALKIRE, WILCOX with the WELLER family?

THORPE, STILLMAN, WILCOX
Mrs. Kittie L. THORPE and Jay STILLMAN were issued marriage license on 24 July 1888, Washington Territoy, Pierce County, with statement by George A. Cook making affidavit. Did m actually take place? What happened to Kittie for whom this would have been a second marriage? A daugher known as Mrs. PARNELL in 1892 newspaper article was a dau of marriage to Mr. THORPE. Kittie was a sister to Laura and Odelia WILCOX and had a millinery shop in dowtown Tacoma, WA, through or until 1914; can't find her in city directory afterwards nor can I find a death record.

Who is Ada N. WILCOX who mar Wm. W. SNYDER, 1 Jan 1891, at Puyallup, WA? Is she a sister to Catherine, Laura, and Odelia WILCOX? She may have gone by Nancy rather Ada.

Seek proof Deborah PAINE was dau of Nathan and Lillis (WINSOR) PAINE. Have reference to genealogy, Genealogy of the Paine and Waterman Families, 1972), found in NEHGS Library; a page gives Nathan's children's birth records and states it was from Nathan's notebook. A Clara Paine Otis (C.P.O.) apparently typed the materials, gave them to Ruth GOODWIN who gave them to Dwight PAINE. Is Clara Paine Otis still alive? Deborah was b at Glocester, RI, 18 Aug 1772; she d and is buried at Byron, Genesee Co., NY, where tombstone shows death date 15 Feb 1849. She m Enos EDDY at Glocester where my ancestress Chloe EDDY was b, and then removed with family and par to Richfield, Otsego Co., NY, before traveling still farther west. Need Enos EDDY'S place and death date as well.

He was a miner in the US; he spent 4 years homesteading in Washington state (poss in Buckley) until 1895 when they went to Juneau. They may have bought properties in Kirkland near Lake Washington.
