What are Queries?
Queries, in genealogical publications, have traditionally been similar to classified ads. They are short paragraphs, with specific details about a person or family, usually complete with a specific question or "query" about that person or family. These days, queries are published in magazines, newsletters, journals, newspapers, e-mail mailing lists and on web sites. The queries found here on the TPCGS web site are submitted by members and non-members who have research in this area of the world. The queries submitted are published in the society's quarterly and on this web site. If you are looking for research help besides this type of query, see the following pages for further options:

Any society member may submit queries for publication in The Newsletter and on the society's web site. Non-members who are doing research in the Tacoma-Pierce County area prior to 1930 may send queries which will be published at the discretion of the Queries Editor. Seek info on Thomas Emery HUNT who wa b about 1849 in Bureau Co., IL; his father is reported to have been Abel HUNT (who d in 1854 in Bureau Co., IL); Thomas Emery's mother is reported to have been Margaret FINLEY. Margaret may have m (2) George HUNT between 1854-1857. About 1870 Thomas Emery mar Mary Adeline and had 3 ch who are listed in the 1880 Census of Bureau Co., IL: Elbert (age 7), Ethleen (age 5), Elmer (age 1). Sometime afterwards Thomas Emery is believed to have left the family (reasons unknown) and went to Seattle, WA, where he res from 1890's to the early 1900's.

Seek info on my gr/grandfather's sister, Jennie SWEET POTTER; she was b ca 1857 MN and d ca 1930 (WA?). She was the widow of Mirret W. POTTER and res in Sauk Rapids, MN in 1910. According to a letter written to my grandfather on 10 Mar 1930, "Jennie is living in an old folks home in Puyallup, Pierce Co., WA." I have been unable to locate a death record for her nor do I know why she would have moved to WA although she had a sister who res in Blaine, WA.

In 1887 the couple and baby George Longfellow took the train to Tacoma, Pierce Co., WA where 3 more ch were born: Joharvey (b June 1888), Louis (b 25 July 1890), and Ruth Florence (b 10 Jul 1893). George A. worked in Tacoma as private detective, also mined in Klondike during gold rush and d at Tacoma 5 Jun 1917. Dell was an early Christian Science practitioner, owned a summer home at Lake Steilacoom, Pierce Co., WA, where her dau Ruth mar Robert WOODYARD on 2 Sept 1922; Dell d Tacoma ca 1935.

Need parents and birth information for John GADDIS who resided in East Hampton, Middlesex Co., CT, in 1810; he is reported to have married a TAYLOR. He had at least two sons: John who lived in Ostego Co., NY from at least 1850 to1880; and James Henry, born 1810 in East Hampton, CT, who married Philura BARTON, probably in Greene Co., NY. John, Sr. is listed with Connecticut men in the War of 1812. John, Jr. served in the Civil War.

Erma had a brother, Thomas L QUINN, who lived in Renton, King Co., WA; he d 5 Nov 1958 and is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Renton. Emma m Media Willard LUCAS; div from him in Tazewell Co., VA in April 1934. Emma was last heard from in San Jose, CA, in 1950. Any info appreciated.

IGI suggests they were ch of Josiah and Ruth (ROOT) NEWELL, Stephen b 1768, Lenox, Berkshire, MA, and Cynthia b 3 Aug 1770 same pl. No info on this couple. Looking for the NAZRO tie-in. The name did not come down the NORTHRUP side.
