What are Queries?
Queries, in genealogical publications, have traditionally been similar to classified ads. They are short paragraphs, with specific details about a person or family, usually complete with a specific question or "query" about that person or family. These days, queries are published in magazines, newsletters, journals, newspapers, e-mail mailing lists and on web sites. The queries found here on the TPCGS web site are submitted by members and non-members who have research in this area of the world. The queries submitted are published in the society's quarterly and on this web site. If you are looking for research help besides this type of query, see the following pages for further options:

Please write to the mailing address or e-mail address given for the individual who posted the query in each section. Please mention that you found the query on this TPCGS web site.

To Submit Queries:

Any society member may submit queries for publication in The Newsletter and on the society's web site. Non-members who are doing research in the Tacoma-Pierce County area prior to 1930 may send queries which will be published at the discretion of the Queries Editor. You must include your full mailing address, as well as your e-mail address if appropriate. Send queries only by postal mail or e-mail to:/

HAMLIN
Seeking death date of my g-grandmother's sister, Margaret Adelaide Bezold HAMLIN, b 1857 in Pennsylvania. She is listed on the 1930 census for Tacoma, Pierce Co. She is not listed on the Tacoma Public Library Obituary List. Can someone look up the date of death so I can locate an obituary and order a copy of her probate?

BARNETT
In the late 1880's my grandmother Anna Rebecca BARNETT traveled from Latrobe, PA, to Tacoma, WA, to teach. She told us that she taught the Indians and used to sing us an Indian song. We understood that she established a school perhaps called "Miss Anna's School." About 1900-1904 she returned to PA meeting my grandfather in Chicago to be married at the Palmer House Hotel. They subsequently had 3 children after she was 40; she d at 90 after raising her children and a grandchild. I am looking for information about Anna's time in Tacoma; I understand that BARNETT relatives were living in Tacoma at the time she decided to go there.

FRYXELL
Seeking information about the FRYXELL family for a friend whose grandmother's cousins' families emigrated from Sweden to the U.S. My friend's g-grandmother's brother, Hjalmar FRYXELL, b 3 Jun 1873 in Fensbol, Fryksaende parish, Vaermland, Sweden, went to America in 1896. There he changed his name to Elmer and m Otillia JONNSON, b 1889/1890?, in Sweden-d 16 Jan 1960 in Tacoma, WA. Elmer and Otillia had 4 sons:
Oscar E. FRYXELL, b 16 Apr 1914-d 29 Sep 1977 in Kitsap Co.(lived in Puyallup in 1969; Walter G. FRYXELL, b 25 Aug 1915-d 6 May 1962 in Tacoma: address 414 Boren Ave, Seattle, WA; naval veteran of WWII and worked as a shipwright; m to Marie and had 3 children: Walter J., Mary Lee and Jennifer Ann;
Einar R. FRYXELL, b 26 Sep 1918-d 25 Nov 1974 in Tacoma; m Hope BEARDSLEY, b 1915-d Feb 1959, address 817 East 48th St; Hope had 3 sisters (Marge Shanks, June O'Connor, and Helen Lacy, all of Tacoma) and 3 brothers (Richard BEARDSLEY of Vancouver, and Wayne and Robbin BEARDSLEY, of Tacoma);
and Alvin E. FRYXELL, b 1919-d 29 Aug 1969 in Tacoma; he was a construction worker and US Army veteran of WWII and a member of Lutheran Church; had a son Terry who lived in Shelton in 1969.
Elmer had a younger brother Per FRYXELL, b 3 July 1891, who immigrated to the U.S. and probably ended up in Oregon; a Peter FRYXELL is listed in the Oregon Death Index as deceased in Klamath Co. in 1941.

VARENSON/STORLI
I am looking for information about the family of Mattie and Nels (Nils) VARENSON. Mattie was the step-daughter of Lars P. STORLI (b 18 Aug 1860, in Norway-d 19 Apr 1941, in Tacoma, WA) and her mother Hanna(h) (b 1860, in Norway-d 15 Jun 1940, in Tacoma, WA). Mattie, b 1880, in Norway, emigrated to the U.S. with her mother Hanna(h) in 1886.
In 1926 Mattie m Nels/Nils Varenson, Norwegian immigrant (b ca 1875, in Norway-d 1 Nov 1954, in Tacoma, WA -death cert. # 20342).
Lars and Hanna(h) lived at 1117 So. 19th St. in Tacoma until their respective deaths in 1940 (Mattie) and 1941 (Lars).

PRATT
looking for any info on a Frank Pratt. listed in his father's 1937 obit as of Tacoma, WA, b in Iowa to Emory PRATT and Martha SHEW. Frank was not listed in the 1880 census, and oldest child Fred was age 13, so Frank was probably born after 1880. Any help appreciated.
