Purpose of the Society

History

The YVGS was formed in 1967 as a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian organization.

 

Membership

YVGS welcomes anyone who wishes to pursue genealogical research.

       Membership benefits include:

           Quarterly Bulletin.

           Opportunity to work with other genealogists.

Library:

The New YVGS Library is located at 1901 S 12 th Ave. Directions for those coming from out of town: Take I-82 to Valley Mall Blvd (Exit 36). Proceed west about 2 two miles, turn right on 3rd Ave then left on Washington (the first signal), turn left on S 12th.

The library is 60ft by 120ft (7200 sq ft) and includes three archive rooms, a microfilm reader room, work room and kitchen. There are also five computers with DSL internet connection. Our thanks to NWInfo.net for making this possible.

YVGS has a rapidly expanding library with a current collection of approximately 12,000 books and 3,500 microfilms, including the following:

·         The Surname File has several thousand cards.

·         The Washington State DAR Library.

·         Tapes of outstanding genealogist's presentations.

·         Manuals, bibliographies, genealogical periodicals, many other volumes, microfilm and fiche.

·         School record collection for Yakima and Kittitas Counties to 1920.

Hours

The library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The library is closed on Saturday for the months of June, July, and August, Memorial Week-end, Labor Day Week-end, Dec 24-25 and New Year's Day.
The library can be opened by appointment during "closed hours". Please call ahead.
The library at this time is for reference use only.

Bulletin

YVGS Bulletin is a quarterly with society news, articles, and records. It is included with membership. It is also available at $4.00 each, or on exchange basis with other Genealogical or Historical Societies. Each volume is indexed in the December issue. Vol I #1 was issued January 1969. All back issues are available.


Queries are published free for members and members of other societies. $1.00 per query for non-members. You can e-mail your queries to the Bulletin Editor at:  <kittycrossing@elltel.net>

Meetings

YVGS meetings are at 10:00 a.m. the first Saturday of each month, except July, at the YVGS Library, 1901 S. 12th Ave.
