J. L. Wells
(I think
James Lloyd)
Wells, born 20 May 1839 in Alabama
(maybe Shelby County), died 04 Feb 1885 in Chilton County, AL. He married
Martha Lucius
in Muscogee County, GA, 29 Aug 1859. Both are buried in the Clanton City Cemetery in
Chilton County. Any information on either would be greatly appreciated.
"Jack" Wells
b: Cir 1810 & d: Cir 1855 in Muscogee County, Georgia.
Information came from Jack's grandson, John Green Wells (son of William Edward Wells and Martha Ann Massey), b. December 05, 1867, in
Honoraville, Crenshaw Co., Alabama. John Green Wells then passed the information along to his grandson, Edsel Wells (son of Reuel F. Wells and Mary Clara Sims), b. 12 Jan 1924 in Honoraville, Crenshaw Co., Alabama. Also given to Edsel Wells
were the names and birth dates of Jack Wells' 5 children.
Recently, we located the John Rollon Massey Family Bible and found the names John Wells and Phoebie Ellis listed as the parents of the 5
children that also confirmed their birth dates. The lady who supplied
the John Wells and Phoebie Ellis names is deceased and no one knows where she
got the information.
The 5 children and their spouses (if known):
- William Edward Wells, b. 11 Apr 1839, d. 25 Aug 1900, in Honoraville, Crenshaw Co., Alabama, bur. Honoravillle Cem., m. 14 Sep 1865 in Columbus, Muscogee Co., Georgia Martha Ann Massey, b. 22 Jun 1840,
in Muscogee Co., Alabama, d. 11 Jul 1923, in Honoraville, Crenshaw Co., Alabama,
bur. Honoraville Cemetery (daughter of John Ross Massey and Georgianne Russell)
- James M. Wells, b. 15 Oct 1841. When Martha Ann Massey applied for
a widow's pension in 1914, James Wells sent an affidavit from Columbus,
Muscogee Co., Georgia to the effect that he had served with William Wells in the
Civil War and that he had lived continuously in Muscogee Co., Georgia since that time.
- Lucy Ann Wells, b. 22 Nov 1843.
- John S. Wells, b. 28 Feb 1850.
- Nancy Catherine Wells, 17 Feb 1852, d. 10 Jan 1910 in Honoraville, Crenshaw County, Alabama; Bur. Honoraville Cemetery. m. 15 Dec 1875, John Rollon Massey, (son of John Ross Massey and Georgianne Russell) b. 10 Oct 1851 in Muscogee Co., Georgia, d. 09 Dec 1931
in Honoraville, Crenshaw County, Alabama, bur. Honoraville Cemetery.

James Wells
b: 13 Mar 1792 in NH
I am desperately trying to locate parents/siblings of
James Wells b:

served in the U. S. Army, 11th Infantry as a regular (not volunteer)1812-1815.
It appears most of his service was in NY -- specifically Buffalo, Batavia, Vernon,
Rome and possibly Rochester. He had a watercolor picture painted about 1812 in

immigrated from RI to Nelson, Madison Co., NY.

James Wells
I am searching for the antecedents of my remote ancestor
James Wells, b 1899 somewhere
in South Carolina. He married
Elizabeth Roberts of Kentucky (daughter of
John Roberts
and
Nancy Cox of Kentucky, grand-daughter of
Joshua Roberts, ? of Virginia) in
Posey County Indiana in 1828, where the family continued to reside off and on for the next 80
years.
This
James Wells was the first
James William Wells in our line. The names
James,
John,
Raymond,
William, and
Thomas recur every
other generation.
Family legend has it that three brothers emigrated from Wales "when New York was still
New Amsterdam," and that two brothers were stone masons or bricklayers (a traditional
occupation in the family according to census records) and one was a doctor. I have
always associated their immigration to America with their Catholic religion and a possible
adherence to the Old Pretender.
James is too young to have appeared on the 1790 census rolls himself. And
without a clue as to the name of his father or the precise location in South Carolina,
I am at a dead end. I do know that
James and
Elizabeth had children named
John,
Lycurgus,
David,
Thomas, and
Burnett.
James Allen Wells
b: Cir 1884 Texas, son of
Eldridge Hoard Wells and
Saphrona Ann Hendry Wells.
James Allen Wells married
Mattie Belle Bales in April 1910 in McKinney, Texas.

Eldridge Wells and his ancestors, I have the geneology on
the
Hendry. The Wells family lived in Greene Co., Tennessee.
James Allen Wells
moved to Caddo, OK...I am at a loss as to
Eldridge Wells and back....
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I have extensive info on all the above families and their descendants, but
am unable to trace the ancestry of John Wells. There is information in the
records of South Fork Baptist Church, Malone, Kentucky about a John Wells
and a William and Jemima Wells. William died in 1823 and his wife Jemima
died in 1827. I do not know the relationship between John and William or if
they have a relationship to my John Wells who died in 1837.
There is also info about a William and Jemima Wells who owned property in
Russell County, Virginia in 1806, as well as a John Wells who owned property
there. They possibly migrated to Kentucky from VA, but again am not sure of
the relationship to my branch of the Wells family.
