Looking for information on Karl Olsen
married to Ellen Engebretson who had at
least one son named Andrew Helfred Olsen
who died in Australia after marrying & having a large
family. Descendants would like to know where the family
came from & if there are any other relatives.
. . . We cannot find out if it was only Andrew Olsen who
immigrated to Australia or if in fact his parents came
also. We have no information on siblings or what part of
Norway that they came from. We only know that they were
sailors & boat builders. Andrew Olsen died in 1948
after having 13 children who have all had large families
of their own. 3 of his children are still living although
now in their 90's and would like to know something of
their Father & Grandfather & Grandmother. Nothing
is known as there is a story that either Karl or Andrew
was an illegal immigrant after jumping ship in Victoria
Aus. & everything was very secretive. We are getting
quite desperate as everything in Australia stops with the
name of Karl & Ellen who are simply listed as
Andrew's parents on his death certificate.

ERIKSEN
13 Jul 1998 Patricia J. Kelly, pgkelly@erols.com
My great grandfather Peder E. Eriksen
was born in Alten, Norway on 13 April 1845, a son of Erik
Nielsen and Regina Pedersdatter. When he was vaccinated
on 25 August 1847 the family resided in Elvebakken.
What was the purpose of these vaccinations? The
certificate does not state that. Was it for emigration
purposes, and why does the certificate state that it must
be presented to the appropriate clergyman within six
weeks of receipt? I need information about these two
towns (or the name of some publications where I can find
such information). I do not know when he emigrated and
whether or not his parents emigrated with him. He lived
in Quincy and Calumet, MI where he was married on 28 Nov
1875 to Maria Emelia Pedersdatter who emigrated from
Finland. Because he was 30 when he married I wonder if
his parents did not emigrate with him. He was a miner and
died on 23 Feb 1921 in Calumet. They had about 8
children, most of
whom did not have issue. I am descended from their
daughter Amanda Carolina.
I am also interested in the origin of the name Moen
(I understand the naming patterns and do not know where
the name Moen came from). It was used after arrival in
the U.S. in a hyphenated fashion Peder or Peter
Eriksen-Moen. I don't know very much about
researching genealogies in countries for which I have no
language skills. I am experienced in genealogical
research but this is new territory for me! Thank you to
anyone who can help me with some of my questions!

EIDE
1 July 1998
Looking for information on Eide family.
What we have is sketchy. Patriarch came to USA around
1900 for the Chicago World's Fair. It is believed the
family came from the southern part of Norway, near the
Eide River. Matriarch's name not known but related to the
Rockne family.
Patriarch was killed in
sawmill accident. My father, Orville (perhaps
Americanized from Norvald) moved to Minnesota with Mother
who remarried. His younger brother (1/2 brother?), Ben,
was killed in train accident probably in Minnesota, near
Kenyon, around the late 1920's.
Orville Eide and Claire
(my parents) had 7 children: Orville ,Jr. (Swede), Donna
Mae, Ben, Clarene (Kelly), Don (me), Anne, Jean Victoria
(Vicky). We moved to the Seattle area early summer 1944.
My e-mail address is: DAEide@aol.com - Any information or just guesses would be
appreciated.
