HANSON
- OLSEN 06/30/98 Kevin Hanson hanson@mail.fabc.bc.ca
Searching for information regarding great-grandparents.
G.G.F. Amund Hanson born Varildskogle,
Norway, Feb.24, 1860. G.G.M Karen Olsen,
born Aabogen, Norway, Feb. 1, 1866. Both immigrated to
America (unsure if this was before or after marriage),
and eventually settled and raised family in Edgerton, WI.
Amund Hanson is believed to have emigrated along with two
brothers, and the family name may have been altered on
arrival in the U.S. (with one of the three brothers going
by the name Hagen/Haagen in America). General information
with respect to the places of origin in Norway, or
contact from any distant relatives would be of great
interest.

EIDE
29 June 1998
We believe our relatives came over from the town of Eide
near the end (at the point where the hook starts) of the
Hardanger Fjord. It is believed these folks came to the
U.S. for the Chicago World's Fair in the early 1900's
(@1910?).
I understand, however, that Eide is a rather common name,
so this information may not be of much help. My father
has more details if this sparks any interest and can be
reached at: DAEide@aol.com
- Thanks - GREAT page! Mark Eide

FOSS
28 June 1998 gdf@win.bright.net
I am trying to locate the parish church my grandfather
belonged to. I think if I can find it I will be able to
trace his family. My ultimate objective is to locate
living descendants of this family that may still be in
Norway. I know for certain that my grandfather had many
brothers and sisters, but I have no information on them.
His name is ANDREW EMIL OLESON FOSS
Born on 4 April 1847 in Oslo
His parents, brothers, and sisters names are unknown.
He emigrated to the USA in 1866 at age 18.
He and his father were blacksmiths.
His older brother was a guard at the king's palace in
Oslo.
He said he took the name Foss from the street the family
lived on in Oslo (Fossveien? or Fossgaten?). This could
mean that the orginal family name was OLESON? I tried to
locate his name in the 1865 Oslo census records which I
obtained through the LDS Genealogical services of Salt
Lake City, but since it was in Norwegian hand-written
script I was unable to translate it. Any help or
suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
