Hedemarkens. F. is Just OLSEN_BRATBOSTAD, m. to Anne
INGBRITSDTR, from the 1801 Census. he was age 62, she was
55. Children listed as Ole JUSTSEN -30, IVER - 25, KARI -
20, MARIA - 16. Parish QVEKNE, subparish QVEKNE. I am
actually trying to find out about a child by the name of
Iver, b. Jan. 6, 1845. who married Kerstin Nilsdtr of
Varnland, Sweden, in Lekvattnet. They were listed as
moving to Lake City, Iowa around 1883. Any ideas how I
could find info for this family, either in Norway or the
U.S.?

Christiana, Norway to Andrew Amundsen and Bertha Nelson.
Bertha Nelson Amundsen born May 4, 1863, and died
December 11, 1938 Luck, Wisconsin. Alma Amundsen was born
May 2, 1886, Alfred's youngest sister. Alma married Clary
Carlson born January 1883. Alfred married Olava Erikson
born 4/29/1880, to Erik Gulbrandson and Nilie Annethe
Olsdaughter. Would like more information on Alfred
Amundsen's parents. Alfred was my mother's father. Edith

Looking for information on my g-grandfather, JOHAN
CHRISTOFFERSEN VANG, and his parents, born 27 January
1865. His place of birth was Hedemarken Vang, per Hamar.
His death certificate lists his parents as BERTHA LARSON
and CHRISTOFFER KNUTSON, it is believed that they were
not married. Johan later married Johanne Stensrud on 8
May 1891 and immigrated with their 4 children; Ingeborg,
Einar, Olga and Erik to the United States in 1902/03.
I have been told that Johan was a carriage maker in
Norway and served in the Army in the "TALL MENS
UNIT". Another family story has it that Bertha once
took Johan to visit his father who house had a "big
gate" around it, they were not allowed in.
If anyone has information regarding Johan or his parents
I would really appreciate hearing about them, their
ancestors and descendants.

Maternal Grandmother was Christine Hisdahl (sometimes
spelled Hesdahl). Born 11/24/1884 near Bergen, Norway.
Father (John?) was sailor. Mother's maiden name may have
been Mickelson; believe to have died about 1897. Also
possibly had brothers John and Thomas. Christine
emigrated with a cousin to US in about 1901. May have had
a cousin (same one?) living near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
Christine married and settled in Minnesota. Interested in
info about ancestors, descendants and family remaining in
Norway. Thank you.

Looking for information (date/place of birth) for Amelia
("Melia"?) Hadlund (Hadland?). Only current
information comes from death certificate written (poorly)
in script by attending physician in Minneapolis, MN,
U.S.A., in 1894.
Ameila was born about 1869 in Norway and emigrated to MN
about 1885. Her father's first name on the death
certificate is unreadable but her mother's name appears
to be "Christina". U.S.A. census records for
1990 were destroyed by fire and Amelia died in 1894. Next
census was 1900, so no help there. Would like to
determine exact birth date for headstone. She was buried
in "public grounds" (unmarked grave) in 1894.
She is my great grandmother. Thanks for your time.

have the two parents birth dates..Thore in 1806 (father
Gunlek Ingebretsen) and Rejer (born June 8, 1810). Do the
Heddal parrish records go further back? Are they online?

Attempting to establish contact with relatives in Norway.
My GGGF (Kristian Brynhildsen Grotberg) had a son (Harold
Eugene Oxholm) with a daughter named Aase. She married
Iro Gordeladze who was originally from the country of
Georgia, where his father served as Secretary of State
when the Russians invaded. His mother was of Greek
ancestry. Upon escaping Georgia, he chose Norway as his
new democracy. Last information I had they were living in
Oslo.
Also, any info on my GGGM Elizabetb Hellquist, born Feb
21, 1873 in Sogndahl, Norway. Parents names were Johann
and Olena Hellquist. She was believed to have come to the
U.S. alone sometime in 1890. Thank You.

Hi. I am trying to trace my great-grandmothers family.
She was born Ingeborg Bjordal on
25 June 1878 in Stryn, Norway, died 12 Sept 1943 in
Portland, Oregon, USA. Her fathers name was Lars Bjordal,
b. 11 Feb 1845 d. 1933. Her mother was Else Petrine b.
1850 in Stryn d. 17 Dec 1887.
Her sister was Lena. I am unclear as to whether there
were other siblings. She immigrated to the US in
approximately 1895. I believe she married my
great-grandfather, Nels Peter Swanson (b. 22 Nov 1864 d.
7 May 1950) from Sweden in New York. They settled in
Mandan, North Dakota and had 5 children: Ellen Nora
(married Roren/Westby), Olga Signe, Clara Lillian
(Cleveland), Ethelyn Vivian (Smith), and Norman I, my
grandfather. They moved to Oregon (Woodburn/Portland)
between 1918?-1922, where they lived until their deaths.
This is all the info I have on this side of my family. I
have just recently started the search, but with the
language barrier and my ignorance :) it is proving to be
quite a challenge! Any information would be greatly

Looking for information on the following persons-
Kristian Thorsten Hafslund, born on January 7, 1843, in
unknown location in Norway (maybe Christiania). Ingeborg
Christie Johannsen, born January 28, 1847, unknown
location (maybe Christiania). Kristian & Ingeborg
married in the late 1860's, perhaps 1868. Their first
child was Karl Hafslund, born September 25, 1869. They
had 3 to 4 more children, who all died as infants. Their
last four children, Sigrid B. 1-22-1879), Torbjurn (B.
1-16-1882), & Asta, my grandmother, (B. 3-16-1885),
moved to the United States sometime in the late 1880's
('87 or '88). They initially lived in Chicago, Illinois.
I'm searching for the info on the name Hafslund. Is it a
farm, or village? Searching for info on Kristian's father
& mother.

I'm interested in data for family of ROTI. I understand
it is not a common name. Ingrebregt Erickson Roti, born
Sept. 1826 and his brother Iver Roti, born Sept.1842 came
to America in 1872. Ingrebregt's first daughter Samueline
born Aug.1851 in Eid County, Norway. I also have the area
of Nordfjord, Norge Norway as birthplace of another
daughter. This is my mother-in-law's family and I thought
I'd see if I could find out anything for her. Anyone out
there working on the Roti genealogy? Some of Ingrebregt
children took the surname of Ingebrightsdtr or
Ingebrightson but then their children surname was Roti.

I am looking for information on Gilbert Amundson who was
born in 1806 in Norway and came to America in 1870 and
homesteaded in Barron County, Wisconsin. I am sorry but
we don't know anything else about him while in Norway. In
the United States, he married Eliza Erickson in Chetek,
Wisconsin in 1881 and believe it or not fathered 4
children between 1883 & 1894 at the age of 76 to 88.

Looking for my great grandfather Peder O. Olsen Holte. He
worked on the Nedre Holte farm in Eidsvold, also known as
the Vestenga farm. It was owned by the Lonlein Family. He
married a Lonlein girl, and later owned part of the farm.
They belonged to the Langsat Parish. Two sons were born
in Norway, they're names were Olaus Pedersen and Martin
Pedersen. Peder was born February 14, 1830. His fathers
name was Ole Nielsen and his mothers name Anne Marie
Olsdatter. Peders wife died in Norway, but Peder and the
two sons came to the U. S. in 1860. Looking for possibly
brothers or sisters he may have left in Norway. When in
the U.S. he used the name Peder O. Holte, Olaus used
Olaus Olseson, and Martin used Martin Holte.

I'm looking for information about my grandmother and her
family in Norway. Her name was Sigrid Birget Olsen. She
was born on December 04, 1889 in Skien Norway. She moved
to Holmestrand, maybe in 1908, where she gave birth to my
mother Ruth Olsen on December 25, 1908.
--While in Holmestrand she lived with an Aunt and Uncle
named Halvorsen. The Aunts name was Nilsene and the Uncle
may have been named Theodore.
--I don't have much information about my grandmothers
father. His name might have been Skinner Olsen or
something that sounded like that. He was in the lumber
business in Skien. He disowned my grandmother when she
became pregnant, out of wedlock, with my mother. My
grandmother had a younger brother named Harold Olsen.
--My grandmother emigrated to the United States in 1913
and married Gustav Hans Larsen who was from Stavanger. He
was born on June 03, 1888. Gustav went to sea when he was
about 13. We don't have any more information about his
early days. The war prevented my mother's emigration
until 1921.

Parents of Ole Jensen who married Kari Embretsdatter, was
born on Nordby farm in about 1757 and lived at Rustad on

KRISTIAN LARSEN, b. 8/19/1833. Lars was no doubt his
father's last name. This family was from Urskog which is
near Oslo, the county of Akershus. Urskog is probably the
farm name. Married to a Marta who died in Norway, but
would like to know when her birthday is, her parents
names, Kristian's parent's names, and any other history.
All their children were born in Urskog: Carl Ludwig,
l863; Casper, 1866; Sophie Anna, 1868; Marian Bolethe,
l870; Caroline, 1874; Oscar, 1875 (my grandfather) ;
Matilda, l879. Another son died in Norway. Kristian
immigrated to the U.S. after his wife died. He worked in
the lumber industry there. Please, any info would be

My Grandfather returned to Norway in 1906.My parents lost
contact with him during WW2. Grandfather remarried after
returning to Norway and had two children. A girl named
Margit and a boy?. Think area of oystre slidre Valdres.
They were on a farm of Bjelbole. I am 69 and figure the
two children to be maybe 20 years older. We would
appreciate any comments you may have in finding our

My mother's brother Oscar Skaar Johannesen emigrated from
either Lensvik in Trondelag or the Bergen area to what I
believe is to the Washington state area (Seattle) between
1915-1933?????
My mother received a letter from him with some
photos...from Seattle approx.1929-1935.
I don't have any info re:address etc. He was dressed in a
sprinters outfit with some sort of club crest on his
jersey. I have these photos in my possession. I might
have cousins in the U.S.????? It would be fun to try to

Looking for relatives who were born in or near Gol,
Hallingdal, Buskerud, Norway. My grandfather's name was
Tosten Thompson born 12/3/1859. When he came to the USA,
he changed his last name to Lund. His mother's name was
Mary and from what we know, she never married Tosten's
father. Tosten's father's name could have been Tosten
Tollefson, Tosten Thompson or Tom Thompson (these names
belonging to the same person). My grandfather was married
in North Dakota in 1892 and we don't know the exact year
of his arrival in the US. Any help is greatly

I would like information on Kristian Larsen, my
great-grandfather, born Aug. 19, 1833. Lars was no doubt
his father's first name, but not sure. The family was
from Urskog which is near Oslo of Akershus. He was
married to Marte____?____. She died in Norway, but
Kristian immigrated to the U.S. after she died. In Norway
his occupation was a lumber worker--timber and sawmill
work, etc. Their children used the name Christiansen
derived from the father's first name Kristian and adding
"sen" for son or daughter of. Using the letter
"C" instead of "K" was Americanizing
the name. Any other information on Kristian and Marte's

I am looking for data concerning the parents of Bendix
Johansen (dob 3 July 1859) who left from Grimstad, Norway
for the USA in 1893. His father's name is Johan Christian
and mother's Anne Skargroven - her father's surname is
Baar. I believe Bendix was a sea captain while in Norway.
He was a lithographer for the Uban Coffee Co. in America.
He died on 21 December 1928.
Bendix married Petrine Ulleberg (dob 20 February 1864 in
Kongsberg, Norway) on 22 January 1889. I would like to
know where this marriage took place and about Petrine's
parents: father Martin Mathisen and mother Petrea
Ulleberg whose father's surname is Peders. Petrine died
on 17 December 1935. Before immigrating to USA (Brooklyn,
NY) Bendix and Petrine had one son, Nadock. Thank you.

Heroy, Norway.(She had a sister my the name of Alice,
married name of Mrs.George Johnsen of Hopkins, Minn) Her

Andoy, Hegland, Norway (?) Grandfather: John Pedar
Kvitnes (*Brandal) born July 1, 1888.(I don't know where
in Norway) His father: Kolben Sakariasen, (birth date not
known). Mothers name: Marie Johanson.(birth date not
know) **they took the name Brandal when the family moved
to the States in 1930. My grandfather came over before
the rest of the family. Occupation of my grandfather was:
fisherman. They lived in Brandal, Norway. I hope this

gggfather was Jon (of Våje) Olsen born 18 Jan 1819 in
Meråker parish, StJordal; he later lived in Vasvik, on
farm Indbjor, on farm Melbu, then moved to Bo, in
Vesterålen, and farm Åsen. He was then referred to in
archives as John Olsen Aasen. When his son (my ggfather,
Johannes Albert Jonson) emigrated to the US and then
Canada, he took the name Austring from Østring (now

OLSEN, Jon (of Våje) b18Jan1819, m Ingeborg Anne
HEDSTROM. Jon of Våje lived near Trondheim until he
moved to Bo, in Vesterålen, North Norway, where Jon ran
a store. Later, the family moved to Åsen, in the Oksnes
parish. Here he was involved with the Fishing Industry.
He became known as a wealthy fisherman. VÅJE was the
western-most island of the Vesterålen islands.
Their son, Johannes Albert
Jonsen (b14May1865, Åsen), m Petra Marie Reinholdtsen
(b21Apr1865) and the family emigrated to Clifford, North
Dakota, in 1901.. (Descendants of Jon Olsen still have
the farm in Clifford.) They moved to Canada, to take a
homestead in Southern Saskatchewan, in 1907. Any

I am looking for any information about surviving
relatives of my great-great grandparents still residing
in Norway. My great-great grandfather was Christian
Halvor Sveum, born on June 17 or 19 1862 to Halvor and
Anna Sveum. Names of siblings include Edvart, Johannes,
Karen and Berthe. Johannes and Karen are reported to have
emigrated to the United States. Christian emigrated to
the United States in 1883. In 1971 the family home was
occupied by a younger Edvart Sveum, probably Christian's
grand-nephew (this was reported by Christian's daughter
Karen, who visited at that time).
My great-great grandmother
was Ida Teoline Haslie, born on May 12 1866 to Martin and
Ingeborg Nordrum Haslie. She had three siblings: Anna,
Nils, and Agnete (Nils and Agnete were twins, b. 1869.
Agnete died at age 7). Anna emigrated in 1878 or 1880,
while Ida emigrated around 1882.
Christian and Ida both
resided in the county of Snertingsdal on the shore of
Lake Mjosa, not far from Lillehammer. I'm not sure if
they were born there. Any assistance would be greatly

Lars Henrickson, his wife's name was Petrine. My maternal
great-grandfathers name was Anders Strandjord, and his
wife's name was Petrine Hagin. Oher names in this family
are Fosshaug, Sarsell?, Erickson, and fagermo. I believe
my grandparents came from Nordland, and immigrated to Ft
Ranson, ND in the early 1900's. If anyone out there is a

married second wife , Marie Joensdatter, in1790. Two
children--Joen in 1791 and Johannes in 1795. Moved back
to Holt before 1811. Johannes Bbjornsen m. Asborg
Andersdatter ,1820. Lived at Kilsend, Normanvik then
settled at Lovdal farm all near Dypvag, Aust Agder. Any
help on father Bjorn and first family possibly lived on
Valle farm or Lunde-eie near Holt and had son Torgus
