The History of the Charles Covert Family
Charles COVERT was born in Pennsylvania in 1836. He married Mary Jane HEPBURN. Mary Jane was the second daughter of Charles P. and Margaret (McALLISTER) HEPBURN, both of whom died in Dunn Co., WI. Charles Covert died after 1900 in Barron Co.and Mary Jane died on 17 June 1900 in Barron Co.
Charles and Mary Jane had three children, all born in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., PA:
- Frank A COVERT was born about 1861 and married in Chippewa, WI on 12 July 1900 to Georgia HOARDE, daughter of George & Annie (Morris) DAVIS . They lived in Rhinelander, WI.
- Samuel E COVERT was born about 1864. He lived in Du Bois, PA.
- Laura Jane COVERT was born in 1863 in Williamsport, Lycoming, PA and died in 1897 in Dovre Township, Barron Co, WI. She is buried in New Auburn Cemetery. Laura Jane was married in Pennsylvania in about 1885 to Peter Field STAFFORD (born in 1857 at Orono, ME and died in 1931 Saskatchewan, Canada. He is also buried in the New Auburn Cemetery). Peter Field STAFFORD was the second son of Richard T & Margaret M (FIELD) STAFFORD. The Peter Staffords lived in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa Co, and in Dovre Township, Barron Co, WI. After the death of Laura Jane, Peter re-married to Katie HARRINGTON in 1903 and in 1909 they moved to Saskatchewan, Canada. The three sons immigrated as well, Frank stayed a few years only before returning to WI, but Richard and Allen became naturalized citizens and acquired land and raised families there. - Clara STAFFORD was born in 1887 at Williamsport, PA. She died on 22 Nov 1971 in Oakland, CA. Clara worked at the Oakland Tribune. She had moved from Akron OH in about 1942 to Oakland CA. She married _____ NICKEL and had 3 sons:
Clara then married Harold IHNOT. Clara and Harold had one son:
- Howard
- Russell (died in 1992)
- Paul (died in 1952)
- John. (Ref. death cert, census 1900 WI)
- Covert S Frank STAFFORD (born in 1889 in Barron Co WI - died in 1957 in WI). He married Helen CUTSFORTH. They had no children.
- Helen STAFFORD (born in 1892 in Barron Co, WI - died ?). She married Fred ANDERSON. They had no children.
- Richard Leonard STAFFORD (born Dec 1893 in Barron Co WI - died 1971 Saskatchewan, Canada) married Harriett Eliza BOYNTON-CURRALL in 1922. Richard and Harriett had three children:
- Laura Pearl STAFFORD (born 04 April 1922 - died 1998) married Harvey HESS
- Ethel Mae STAFFORD (born 23 Sep 1923 - died 1995) married Ronald METCALFE
- Bessie Irene STAFFORD married John HOEPPNER
- Charles Allen STAFFORD (born 09 Nov 1895 in Barron Co, WI - died 21 Dec 1969 in Saskatchewan, Canada). He married Bessie Violet LEACH in 1917 Star City, Saskatchewan, Canada. Charles and Bessie had five children:
- Helen Irene STAFFORD married Harold HANSON. They had two children:
- Marilyn
- Russell
- Kenneth Allen STAFFORD married Lucille
- Lois Margaret STAFFORD married Haakon ANDAL
- Earle Harold STAFFORD married Astrid BERGREN
- Leslie Garner STAFFORD (born 10 May 1927 - died 15 Dec 2000). Leslie was married first to Lorriane NELSON, and then Anne HEINRICKS.
