The History of the
John and Adelia "Della" (White) O'Flanagan
Adelia White
was the daughter of Isaiah and Melissa White,
the seventh child of Jesse and Charity Whitneck White.
Isaiah was an older brother of the Rev.
Alvin M. White. Isaiah was born February 9, 1837 in either New
Brunswick or Maine. On August 11, 1860 he married his third cousin
Melissa
White. Melissa was born about 1840. Three children were
born to them. Aurelia “Rilla” White
on July 23, 
1861,
Adelia “Delia” on April 13, 1863, and Charles Frederick
White born March 1868. Charles lived only a few hours.
The three of them were born in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.
Isaiah passed away on March 18, 1868 at the age of 31 years, 1 month, and 9 days. A year later Adelia’s mother Melissa also passed away on April 20, 1869 at the age of 29 leaving the two girls without a mother or a father. Aurelia lacked four months of being seven and Adelia was five when their mother died.
The two girls stayed with various family
members. Adelia eventually went to live in Barron County with her
uncle, Alvin M. White. She stayed at the Alvin White home until she
married John O’Flanagan, son 
of
John
and Sarah O’Flanagan. This marriage took place on September
12, 1879 at Prairie Farm, in Barron County, Wisconsin. John was born
in 1856.
John and Adelia lived in Dallas Township on their farm except for the last few years of their lives when they moved into town. All of John and Adelia’s children were born on this farm.
Their first child Elsie died when she was young. Dolphus, their next child was born in 1882. Silas, their second son was born in 1884. Silas was killed by silo filler in February 1922. He lived in Prairie Farm. Olive was born in 1893 and died in 1968. Claude, born in 1895, served in France and died of a brain hemorrhage in 1934. Lyle was born in 1899, Maude in 1900, Winnie has no birth date give, and Ester was born in 1903.
John O’Flanagan died of cancer in 1931.
Adelia passed away on June 13, 1945 from injuries of a broken hip.
