Barron County Schools

Fourtown School History

Fourtown Joint # 10
Arland Township

The Fourtown School was opened in 1903 and operated until 1957 when it was consolidated with the Barron Area Schools (Hillsdale).

The first school meeting held in this district met at the E. L. Heffner home in July, 1903 at 7:00 pm.  At this meeting a correction line was established for the new district since it was until then a part of the too large Young School District.

The school site was small since it became a part of each of the townships of Maple Grove, Arland, Dallas and Prairie Farm.  The name given to the school, Fourtown, was chosen because it was built at the corner of the four townships (Section 36 of Arland Township).

After consolidation, the school was converted to a very attractive private home.
