Here's what's been going on at the Barron Co. WIGenWeb Pages:
19 November 2001: There's lots to be thankful for on this week of Thanksgiving. We owe our thanks to Denise Ervasti, who has donated three more cemeteries to our website, including, Prairie Lake, Otterholt and Evergreen. You will find these listed on our updated (and reformatted) Cemeteries page. There were also more pages added to our 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index, which can be found on the Census section of this website. Today's additions include surnames beginning with the letters N, O, P & Q. Enjoy! And have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!
12 November 2001: Today's uploads include more of the 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index, a part of our Census section of this website. Surnames included in this new information are for those names beginning with K, L, and M. This is all due to the hard work and dedication of Denise Ervasti. We also have a brand-new volunteer by the name of Veronique McMillan and the product of her volunteerism is some wonderful photos of the Berg family of Barron Co. You will find these new photos added to our Photo Album page on this website. I'm also very happy to add Veronique to our Volunteers page. Stop in, browse around! There's lots of good stuff and lots more to come!
29 October 2001: More of the 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index was added to the Census section of our website today. These new pages cover surnames beginning with G through J, courtesy of Denise Ervasti, once again. She also donated the materials for the cemetery that was added to our Cemeteries section of the website. This cemetery is the Cedar Lake Cemetery of Doyle Township. Check it out! Thanks again Denise for the wonderful donations to the website.
24 October 2001: Two more pages were added to the 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index today. These pages cover surnames beginning with the letters E and F. You will find this 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index linked from our Census section of this website. Thanks Denise for more great data!
23 October 2001: A new cemetery was uploaded to our Cemeteries section of the website today! This one, Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, was donated by Denise Ervasti and is a very welcome addition to the website. And there will be many more of these cemeteries added in the upcoming months. There were also some excellent biographies added to our Archives section of the website today. These come from our old friend, Vic Gulickson. And Denise E. also donated a bunch of obituaries. You will also find them in our Archives section. Lots of good reading and lots more to come. Enjoy!
15 October 2001: New items added to our website today include some wonderful maps drawn and donated by Denise Ervasti. These maps show the changes in township boundaries over the years, beginning in 1874. You will find these on our Maps page, which is linked off of the Communities page. Also added to the website are the C and D surnames from the 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index that's found on our Census pages, also donated by Denise! If you're looking for a particular family in that time frame of Barron Co. history, you just might find it here! More will be added as I get them typed up. And I'm still plugging away at the Schools of Barron Co. project. Names and locations have been added for those beginning with L through P today. After I get them all listed, then we'll see about getting some histories and photos online for some of these schools. So, as you can see, there's lots of things planned for the future of our Barron Co. WIGenWeb site. Please come back and check it often!
8 October 2001: More names have been added to our growing list of Schools, along with approximate locations of each as they are being found. The Census page has been cleaned up and updated. Each link will now take you to a breakdown of the census information available for that year. A new item on this Census page is the 1903 Barron Co. Atlas Index, donated by Denise Ervasti. This is quite an extensive index and is being broken down into alphabetical bits that will be added over the upcoming weeks. As always, you are invited to browse around the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site and see what's new and what is available to help you with your research. Please come back and check our site often, as much new info is being added weekly.
1 October 2001: After collecting quite a few photos from the Barron Co. area over the past few months, we have a fine start to our Barron Co. Photo Album. Be sure to check out all of these new photos, many donated by some of our long-time favorite helpers and some from new helpers. My thanks to Linda, Tanya, Beryl and Bud for their gifts in the form of these great photos.
26 September 2001: Several new items have been added to our website this morning that I would like to share with you. A new page was added to our Census area of the website. This new page contains a list of the early settlers of Barron County, prior to 1869. There is also some new names and locations on our Communities page that you should check out. Did you know there were actual place names like, 'Fishers Mill,' 'West Dallas,' and 'Summing Station'? Check it out! These files were contributed by Denise Ervasti, with much more to come from her in the future! Also, while working on this Communities page, I took the liberty of moving the ever-increasing list of community histories to a page of its own. You will now find a link to those histories at the top of our Communities page. Be sure to keep tabs on this Histories page, as there promises to be more added in the near future! I also hope you are keeping an eye on both the Message Board for Barron Co. and the Barron Co. Archives, as both of these get regular additions. Also be sure to check out the contributions that Lorraine Hand has submitted -- Birth, Marriage and Death information on the Hand family, as found in our contributors section of the Vital Records area of this website. My thanks to both of you for sharing your information with us all!
24 September 2001: After taking a break from the website to do a "collecting of materials", I am getting prepared to put some great info on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site. We've had many donations to the site and this winter promises to be an exciting one for the researcher who visits our site. To give you a little taste of some of the quality info that has been donated, be sure to check out the two new Family Histories -- the Gustav Reidel family and the Herman Richter family. Both of these histories are excellent. I highly recommend them to you. The submitters of these wonderful family histories are well versed in the study of genealogy. My thanks to both Denise Ervasti and Eric Borreson for their donations. I'm very pleased to add you both to our Volunteers page!
30 July 2001: Today's update is mainly administrative -- a preparation for future materials. There is also an informational page added today to promote our new Barron Co. WIGenWeb Message Board. This page is full of hints and directions on how to post effectively to the message board. We are looking forward to many new and great things here at the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site. Please stay tuned!
16 July 2001: Jill Mueller has added more of her Blyton family births to our Vital Records page. You will find them on our Birth Records page. Along with this new information from Jill, is also a great photo of the Blyton family. Be sure to check out this bonus picture! Vic Gulickson has added three more biographies to our Archives. This portion of the website would be very empty without Vic's dedication to providing the great biographies that come from the "History of Barron County Wisconsin, 1922". Be sure to also check this section of the site out. My thanks to both Jill and Vic for their contributions. They are appreciated!
10 July 2001: Today's new items include another great family history donated by Beryl Meehan, complete with more photos for our Family Histories page. The name to look for is the Peter and Laura Jane (Covert) Stafford family history. Thanks, Beryl, for the great information! The items listed next to your name on the Volunteers page sure is growing! An another new volunteer has added some information to our Vital Records section. Marill Turillo sent the info on Earl Eugene Ford's death record. I'm very happy to add your name to our Volunteer's list, Marill! Thanks for sharing!
2 July 2001: New items added to the website this week include more biographies from Vic Gulickson for our Archives Project. And I've finally gotten a start on the Schools project by adding the first segment of schools along with their locations. There's lots more to come for this project, so keep watching each week.
18 June 2001 - Another busy day on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site and lots of new items contributed by two of our veteran donators. First, is a genealogy sent to us by Beryl Meehan and is for the Charles Hepburn family of Barron Co. This genealogy works hand-in-hand with the previous one that Beryl sent to us on the Charles Covert family. You can find this new one, along with the old, listed on our Family Histories page. Second, our biography friend, Vic Gulickson. He has sent us 17 new bios to browse through this week (that's alot of typing!), so feel free to check out our Biographies section of the Barron Co. Archives Project. My thanks to both Beryl and Vic for sharing with us. I've also gone over the Barron Co. Cemeteries page and made some new notes (thanks to Vic, who also gave me some new information). And as long as I was working on that page, decided to get several more cemeteries uploaded for your research pleasure. You will find that Meadow Creek Cemetery and St. John's Catholic Cemetery have been added to our list. I hope you will find all of this information not only interesting to you, but a help to you in your research.
11 June 2001 - Today's uploads are the completion of the township histories from the "Biographical and Historical Album of the Chippewa Valley Wisconsin, 1891-92" and includes histories from the townships of Dallas, Dovre, Maple Grove, Oak Grove, Prairie Farm, Stanfold, Stanley, Sumner, Turtle Lake and Vance Creek. You can find these histories linked at the top of our Communities page or within the body of the page under each town description on the same page. To go along with these histories, new links have been added to the Churches page for histories that were written up on some of the area churches from the above townships. And on our Barron Co. Links page, new school links have been added. Last, but far from least, Vic Gulickson has sent in 15 new biographies for us to read. These can be found in the Barron Co. Archives section of our website. Enjoy reading and I hope you find something that is useful to you in your research!
4 June 2001 - Once again, Linda Mott has been busy delivering another piece of history to us. This time it is the 1920 Town of Cumberland census records. Links to this excellent material can be found on our Census page. Be sure to check it out, especially if you had family living in Cumberland Township! And Vic Gulickson, Mr. Biography, has once again sent us some wonderful bios for our Archives project. Take a cruise through all of the Archives materials -- you'll be impressed with Vic's contributions! Thanks to each of you for making this website more successful with every new addition that you contribute!
21 May 2001 - This week's new additions include census records from the 1880 Town of Lakeland, and the 1900 Town of Cumberland. These wonderful works were contributed to our site by Linda Mott, who has given us other really good information about the Cumberland area. Be sure to stop by our Census section and check these new additions out, especially if you have family from this area. To go along with this information, I've also added another short history of the Cumberland Township area from 1891-92 in our Communities section. This also gives more history on the churches of that area, which have been linked to our Churches page.
14 May 2001 - New additions for this week include more birth and death record information from Lillian Prevette and Jeannette Sauntry. These two ladies are really helping to fill in some gaps of the families that they have been researching. Be sure to visit our Vital Records pages to see what information they have donated. Also new biographies have been added this week by Vic Gulickson, who has been doing alot of typing for this project. Today's uploads include such names as Babcock, Bensend, Bergeson, Bracklin, Carlson, McKain, Nord and Steltzner. He's also sent us some short histories on some early companies from the Barron Co. area. Be sure to visit the Barron Co. Archives to see what's new and what's been added over the past several years. And speaking of histories, I've been able to add three more township histories to our Communities page. These histories are for Cedar Lake, Chetek and Clinton townships. My thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make this site a success.
7 May 2001 - We have another new volunteer to add to our growing list. Today's new helper is Jeannette Sauntry who has generously donated more to our Births, Marriages and Deaths pages in our Vital Records section. Thanks Jeannette, for a job well done. She is also being added to our Volunteers page. And again, Vic Gulickson has donated more biographies for our Archives. Be sure to check these new bios out and all the other hard work that Vic has donated. And lastly, a short history of Barron Township and the community of Barron was added to our Communities page. Enjoy!
30 April 2001 - Today's new items include a great Family History submitted by a new volunteer - Beryl Meehan has submitted the Charles Covert Family History -- complete with photos! It's another great example of what others can do to make a good website. Thank you Beryl for your help! I'm very happy to add your name to the Volunteers page! Another act of volunteerism was shown again by Vic Gulickson. Today's bios include for these surnames: Kahl, Miller, Nord and Ross. Be sure to check out our Archives to see these new bios, along with all the others that have been donated to the site by Vic. His is a tough act to follow, but I was able to add a little history to the site today. On the Communities page, you will find a link to an historical accounting of the forming of Barron County, complete with lists of county officers and some 1890 statistics. This is the start of a new project for me and I will be adding more county history to the site over time. As with every new update, the site's Search Engine is being updated to pick up any names or phrases that you may be looking for.
25 April 2001 - I have been able to complete the goal of getting all of the Pre-1907 Vital Indexes online before summer! Today's new additions include all Marriage Indexes for the surnames G through Z. That's 26 new pages of indexes for you to browse through, or 5,783 names! Or you can use our handy search engine, which has been updated to reflect all of these new names. When using the search engine, please be sure to try many variants in spelling. One letter switch that I am very aware of is the confusing of the letter U and N when the records were originally transcribed. Also, Kathy Winters has made me aware of links between her Family Histories and several biographies in our Archives section which were donated by Vic Gulickson. Links have been added to these biographies from the Zenas Harrington family page and also from the Alvin White family page. And Vic has added even more biographies to our Archives! Be sure to check them all out! There are also new surnames added to our Surnames page. Take a look, maybe someone else is researching your family surname and has info to share! Or you may be able to help someone else through this Surname page. Have a surname to add? Just let me know the name, location in Barron Co. where they lived, and when they lived here, along with your name and email address so others can contact you. That's it for this week. Be watching for more new items, as there's still lots more information that we have to share.
16 April 2001 - We have another new contributor to our site this week. Kathy Anderson has donated her family's birth and death information to our Vital Records pages. If you have an interest in the Larson family of the Cameron area, be sure to check out what Kathy has sent to us. Some of these births are also linked to our Pre-1907 Birth Index, as well. Great job, Kathy! Welcome to the team! I am happy to add your name to our growing list of Volunteers. Also added today was the Village of Canton history that Vic Gulickson donated to our site a while back. This history has now been added to our Archives as well. And as always, Vic has done a superb job of typing up this history. I am also trying to get busy on the Pre-1907 Marriage Index, and today's uploads include the surnames beginning with the letters E and F. This adds another 500 marriages to our database. Browse around and see if there is anything on our site that may be of help to you. We hope so!
9 April 2001 - New items added to our website this week include more Birth Records from Kathy Winters and a new contributor, Lillian Prevette. These birth records are also tied into the Pre-1907 Birth Index, so if you find a record that you would like to order for yourself, just follow the link to the index and it will give you the particulars for ordering. Also, Vic has been busy doing lookups for people and making them smile :~). You will find these new Biographies in our Archives section of this website. You know, Vic has been so busy doing these biographies for us, I just had to restructure that section of the archives. They were getting too big! You will now find a "Biographical Index" page, along with the biographies that are broken down into four segments. You can check to see if your names are listed in the books and put your order in! And don't forget to look in the Obituaries section. There were 20 new obituaries added today by Kent Robarge. This wraps up his collection of Barron Co. obits. They can be viewed in either the Archives section or in the GenConnect Obit board. My thanks to all of you for your great contributions to the site. Every bit of info that you have donated is of great value and will be appreciated by many.
2 April 2001 - New this week to our website is the rest of the pre-1907 birth index. No fooling! Today's additions cover the surnames beginning with O through Z. If you've been waiting for these, they are finally here! I invite you all to stop by our Vital Records section and see if any of your info is contained in these pre-1907 birth and death indexes. Marriages will be completed as soon as possible! Vic has also submitted several more bios, so make sure you take a look at his list of contributions in the Biographies section of the Archives. Thanks again Vic! And my thanks to you all for visiting!
26 March 2001 - It was another busy day on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb pages. This morning we started out with a new Family History, this one for Thomas and Martha (Thompson) Oscar of Barronett, donated by Torunn Bakke of Hell, Norway. Thanks Torunn, for a great story with a great photo included. We also had three great biographies donated to our Archives section by Vic Gulickson, our Bio Man, and 26 new obituaries added from the Kent Robarge collection. These are great additions to the Barron Co. website and are of great value to researchers who may be looking for these particular surnames. I urge you all to check these pages out. And don't forget to check the Vital Records page for the new birth indexes that were added today. Surnames beginning with M and N were added today, giving us 890 more names in our database. The search engine will be reindexed this evening to reflect all of these new additions. Thanks again to a great team!
19 March 2001 - We're on a roll with our Vital Records section. More birth, marriage and death records were added today, along with more of the Pre 1907 Birth Index for surnames beginning with the letters K and L. Along with this new information, I'm happy to announce two new volunteers to our ranks, Barbara Maxwell Krall, who donated today's Marriage Records, and Bev Gossard, who donated the Birth Records for the Reed family. And Kathy Winters has updated some of her Family History information that she's recently discovered, along with donating materials for the Death Records page. You all are doing a super job. Thanks so much for the great help!
12 March 2001: More marriage and death records were added to our Vital Records section today by Tanya Paro. This completes the family info that she has contributed to the site, but she's busy on finding other things to donate! So you'll be hearing her name again! Also added to the site today were some obituaries that correspond to the deaths on our Death Records page. These obituaries can be seen at the GenConnect Obit board. My thanks to Tanya and Susan Anderson for their submissions.
6 March 2001 - Late last night the final pre-1907 death indexes for surnames starting with K through Z were uploaded to our Vital Records section of this website. The finishing touches were put on today, including links to each of these pages from the Pre-1907 Death Index page. It is my hope, in completing this project, that it will provide a means for you to find early records (and give you the ability to order such records) on your ancestors. The site's search engine has been updated to reflect these new names that have been added to our database. Give it a try! And good luck in your research.
5 March 2001 - Several new additions were made to our pages today. First, Kathy Winters has completed the scanning of the homestead pages for Azariah Mitts. These can be found under his story in the Family Histories section. Also be sure to check out the Surnames page as there have been new additions made there over the past few weeks. If you are researching the Gumbus or Krahulec surnames, this page might be of interest to you. And if you'd like to add your surnames to this page, just follow the directions as listed on that page.
27 February 2001 - Today's updates include work from two new volunteers, Susan Anderson and Tanya F. Paro. Both have contributed new information to our Vital Records section of this website. Susan's contribution were some new marriage and death records, while Tanya's were also marriage and death records, along with birth records too! These ladies have done a super job and I am happy to add them to our Volunteers page. Welcome to the team girls!
12 February 2001 - It was a great day here on the Barron Co. website! Kathy Winters has once again provided us a wealth of information, this time on the Mitts family. This includes scans of actual marriage licenses, homestead papers and many, many wonderful photos of the family. You will find the link to this new page on our "Family Histories" page. Be sure to check out all the links on this new page! It will be well worth it!
05 February 2001 - It was another busy day on the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site. We have added some new Vital Records on our interactive Birth, Marriage and Death pages, along with another Family History from Kathy Winters. We also have added two new Volunteers, Dan McCollum and Jill Mueller, to our growing list. To end the day, 20 more obituaries were added to our GenConnect Obit Board, along with the Archives, from the Kent Robarge collection. Browse through our pages and see how we're growing!
29 January 2001 - Today's new upload is another portion the pre-1907 death index and can be found in our "Vital Records" section. This new information includes surnames starting with the letter E through the letter J, adding another 794 new names to our database. Take a moment to check it out. I will be adding more to these vital records databases as time allows. I hope they are of help to you in your research.
25 January 2001 - Working in conjunction with a recent query on the Barron Co. GenConnect Query board, four new family histories have been posted on our "Family Histories" page. This covers the various Johnson families that resided in the Barronett area, complete with photos! Hopefully, this will help to sort out the many Johnsons that lived in that area by letting you know 'who belonged to who.' :~)
22 January 2001 - Kathy Winters has once again sent us a wonderful addition to our "Family Histories" page. Today's donation is on the Rev. Jeremiah White's family, complete with beautiful photographs of many of the family members. This is another 'must see', as Kathy has sent us another piece of valuable history for our website. Thank you so much, Kathy!
19 January 2001 - Today's new items include a history of the Village of Canton, donated by Vic Gulickson. This is good reading about a small town that many times is overlooked. You will find links to this new page on the "Communities" page under the section for Canton, or on the "Volunteers" page, in the ever expanding list of Vic's contributions. We thank you, Vic, for another fine job! Also included in today's new item list is a history of the John and Adelia "Della" (White) O'Flanagan family. This is another of Kathy's fine contributions and includes some fantastic photos -- including a copy of John and Della's marriage certificate! It's another super addition to our "Family Histories" page, and can also be found on the "Volunteers" page under Kathy's growing list of donations. Thanks again, Kathy! And last, but far from least, we have another new Volunteer! Dale Wurts has sent us information on his McCallum family of Barron Co. Today, information on births and deaths (including obituaries) were added to the "Vital Records" page and to the GenConnect Obit board. It's great to have you join us, Dale. Thanks for the valuable information. We are happy to have it on our website! What a great team!!! :~)
18 January 2001 - A few additions and corrections were made to the website today. First, my sincerest thank yous go to Anne Watton for the information on the Cemeteries locations. She has sent me corrections to where Weisner and St. Charles' cemeteries are located. These corrections have now been made. Also, Kathy Winters has been busy again! She has added more to our interactive Marriages page and also added some super family photos to the Alvin White family history. Together we are making one very good team! Thank you to all who are helping!
16 January 2001 - Our website is growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to all of our volunteers! Today's volunteer, Kathy Winters, has sent to us a wonderful history on the Rev. Alvin M. White family. You can find this history on our "Family Histories" page. She also has sent us another very informative obituary for Alvin's wife, Mary Jane which has been submitted to our GenConnect Obit board. Take a look! Thanks, Kathy, for another great submission to our site. Without you on our team, this website would be alot emptier!
15 January 2001 - The remaining 44 chapters of the Cumberland History have been typed up and submitted by Linda Mott. These chapters contain some wonderful history and interesting stories of the early days of Cumberland and Linda has done an excellent job of typing them up for us. We can't thank Linda enough for her hard work. I am happy to have her as a part of our team! Thank you Linda!
13 January 2001 - Ten more chapters of the Cumberland History were added to our website today by Linda Mott. These new chapters include histories of the schools, medical facilities and health care professionals, and church histories. The church histories were also linked to the "Churches" page for easy access. Once again, thank you, Linda, for your hard work and dedication! It is appreciated.
12 January 2001 - There's more Cumberland history that's been added to our Barron Co. pages! Linda Mott has once again donated materials from the Cumberland Centennial book, today's installments being the "Italian History" and the "Cumberland Pioneer Association," both of which contain many names. You can check it out by going to our 'Communities' page and scrolling down to the Cumberland section. A link to this history is provided there. Thanks again, Linda!
10 January 2001 - Another great addition has been submitted by Linda Mott, one of our valued volunteers. This time Linda is working on the history of the City of Cumberland. This is a big project, so be watching for more chapters to be added in the future. And if you get a chance, drop Linda a note of thanks. This is really good material and she's worked very hard for us. Her email address is listed on the top of each of these Cumberland History pages. You will find this history linked from our Communities page under the Cumberland section.
9 January 2001 - Several new pages were added today that I'm pretty excited about. The first one will be for the schools of Barron Co. If you have information on any of the old country schools, school histories, or lists of graduates from any of the schools in Barron Co. that you would like to donate, this is the place the information will be put on. The other new page is a Thank You page. It is set up to show who has volunteered information, along with what info they have contributed to our website. This page is long overdue, as I know that the Barron Co. WIGenWeb site would be very empty without your help. So, once again, I want to thank each and every one of you, contributors and visitors alike, for all that you have done to make this site a success.
3 January 2001 - We are starting a new year and to kick it off, we have added some new information to the Births, Marriages and Deaths pages within the Vital Records. These are the interactive pages where you, the visitor, are welcome to submit info pertaining to your families within Barron Co. Today's submissions were from Ulrike Graf from her Rothenbach family. Our thanks to you Ulrike for your help. You will also see that those "What's New" items from the year 2000 have now been archived (see the link below on this page). If you are wondering what's happened in the past year, please feel free to browse through this archived file at your leisure. We are looking forward to many new things this year, so make sure you come back and visit often! Happy New Year to you all!!!
