Services That We Provide

Barron County Lookups

The Blue Hills Genealogical Society - Barron County, Inc. is a group of people who enjoy genealogy as a hobby.  While none of our members are professional genealogists, we do offer 'Lookups' in records available in the Barron Co. area.  If you are interested in becoming a member, our membership application form is here.

Society Lookup Policy and Fees

Members lookups- $10 per hour, one hour minimum.
Non-Members - $30 per hour, one hour minimum.

To enable us to serve you better, it is necessary that you determine and inform us of your search priorities. Let us know what is most important
 so that we do not cover old ground, this will ensure that you get what you want (if available). A full report of where we searched and what was found (even if nothing was found) will be provided.

Abstracts of documents only!
(copies of materials will be provided where noted with an asterisk [*])

The following materials are available for searching:

  • From our Research Room:
    • Plat books
    • Church histories *
    • Some township records *
    • Some school records *
    • Cemetery transcriptions
    • Christeson Civil War Collection *
    • Some community histories *
    • Surname/Lookup files
    • Etc. (our resources are growing!)
       
  • Obituaries*:  You MUST provide the following information to ensure an accurate search.  A charge for the search at an hourly rate is required.  We will check newspapers in the 4 weeks following the death date.
    • Full name
    • Full death date
    • Location of death, residence, and/or burial (in Barron County)
    • Identifying information such as spouse’s name, birth date, or children’s names.
       
  • Register of Deeds Office:
    • Birth record search
    • Marriage record search
    • Death record Search
    • 8th grade graduates search
       
  • WSGS Certificates Approved (Pioneer and Century certificates)
Special requests for research or photo’s may be made by mail to the society.
