Seeking information on Daniel (or David) SPORES b. 1851 IL, m.Rachael
PARSONS 1878 in IA.
Children: Nellie, Jim, Martha, Rebecca, John, Daniel, Rose. All
children, except Rose perhaps, born in WI. since there are other
Spores' in Barron County at that time, perhaps the family also lived
in Barron Co. Martha may have been born in Pepin Co., John and Daniel
may have been born in Dunn Co. 1886. Daniel may have farmed and/or
worked on the construction of the bridge in Durand. Nellie married
George Springer of Buffalo Co. The couple
homesteaded in Burnett Co. 1907.
Any information on Daniel or his family would be greatly appreciated,
especially the names of Daniel's parents and Daniel's specific
birthplace.

He lived in Buffalo County from about 1857 to his death. He was in
the hardware business and also farmed.
His wife was named Catherine (ALBRIGHT) HORST. Both born in
Germany.
Several children: Alvin, Arthur, Julia, Amanda, and Ottile.
Came to Buffalo County via the Colonization Society of Cinncinnati

Researching the (VON)KLINGLER SONTAG FRISH families
They came from Germany (Bavaria) in about 1858. They landed in
Peoria, Illinois, and then moved to Trempealeau, WI. Later they
homesteaded a place between Bluff Siding and
Fountain City. This is where most of the family
stayed for years to come.

I am searching for the descendants of John George SCHMIDT and Maria
LUMPP SCHMIDT of Alma, Buffalo Co., WI. John lived
in Alma from 1880 till his death in 1905, at age 48. His wife, Maria,
moved to Joliet, Il. some time after the death of her husband, but I
do not know when. She died in Joliet in 1927.
They had six children, Mary, George, Gustave, Rosina, Pauline and
Hlda. Rosina was my Grandmother, she moved to Wa. state in 1906, I do
not know anything about the rest of the family. Thank you.

Could anyone tell me what the Lone Pine Camp M.W.A. in Alma,
Buffalo Co., WI., is or was? My GGrandfather, John Geroge
SCHMIDT, was a member of that order, according the the article about
his death in the Buffalo County Journal in 1905. And the Frohsinn
Singing Society, he was also a member of that group. Thank you for

Researching LINDQUIST and KNAPPEN
Additional information has come my way via obit newspaper clippings
(Fergus Falls) There were 3 Lindquist brothers, Andrew W. born
1870-died 1946; Charles G., born 12/2/1878- died Mar.4,1965 and the
third, name and birth.death dates unknown. Andrew and Charles were
born in a log cabin on the banks of the Mississipi River near Alma,
Wisconsin. Andrew and Charles married sisters, Charles to Neva Evelyn
Knappen and Andrew to M. Edna Knappen. There was a third sister, a
spinster, Mabel Knappen, who worked as a linetype operator for 50
years at the Minneapolis Tribune.as well, whom I knew. Mabel passed
away sometime in the 1950's in southern California. I know that
M.Edna Knappen was born also in Alma. The parents of these men were
Swedish immigrants, Christine Westling and Jno Lindquist. Both are
buried at Mound Cemetery, Ortonville, Minnesota. In 1879, the
Lindquist family moved from Alma to Ortonville where they
homesteaded. The brothers ran the Diamond Boat Lines out of
Ortonville. They were the founders of the townsite of Diamond, S.D.
and later provided a freight and passenger boat line at both Lake
Traverse and Big Stone Lake. Charles and Andrew, possible #3 brother,
later moved to Fairmont ,N.D. and became involved in the oil
business. Charles came to Fergus Falls, MN in 1925 and he and his
brothers built the Three Star Oil Company, a log cabin style service
station. I know that Andrew William Lindquist's wife, M. Edna
Knappen, died in 1929 but I cannot find either a birth nor death
certificate for her, yet she is buried at Mound Cemetery, Ortonville,
MN Lot 197- Grave #8. Andrew William and Edna had two daughters,
Phyllis, married to Ray MacIntosh and Muriel, married to Daniel Logan
Evander. Muriel died in 1919.. Charles G. and Neva also had two
daughters, Sybil, married to Arnold Forbes of Bemidgi and Marjorie,
married to James H. Knapp. The Lindquist boys, evidentally, also had
a sister residing in Idaho in the 1960's. Not much to go on, but this
is all I have been able to dig up. If you can help me someway, I

Peter PARISO purchased land in Buffalo Co Township 23 N Section 33
Range 11W. It was 160 acres and it was purchased on Sept 15, 1873. I
have had trouble tracking this family. Peter married Mary GEBEC. I
know they were French Canadians and they had approx at least 7
children including Louisa PARISO who married Ole A. ONSTAD. If anyone

Jacob H. STOVER moved to Wisconsin after 1853. He and his wife
Rebecca (Hess) STOVER, purchased 80.0000 acres of land in Buffalo Co
in 1858. Jacob H. STOVER died in Wisc around 1873. Rebecca STOVER
died around 1877. Both are reportedly buried in LaCross Wis.,
according to family letters.

Florence HAFFNER listed for Buffalo Co. That is all the information I
have. I hope it proves to be fruitful. It seems that so few records
existed around that time span. I know I have ancestors, I"m here!!

Mondovi, WI. He would be my daughters'
g-grandfather. I'd like to get as much info as possible and thought I
could start with trying for an obituary out of the local newspaper -
however, I don't know where to write. He was married to Bertha Mary
MAHLUM, b. 5 Dec 1884 in Norway, d. 27 Sep 1959 in
Mondovi, WI.
I will also be researching the MAHLUM FAMILY. My daughters' grandmother was Elsie URNESS, b. 17 Mar 1913, d. 20 Oct 1993. She married LaVerne SCHILLING for whom I have considerable information. I'll appreciate any help/suggestions regarding research.

Seeking information about URNESS, John died June 1947 resided in
Buffalo County, WI (Modena and Mondovi). Also
seeking information about MAHLUM, Bertha Mary died September 1959.
She went by the name Mary. She is buried in Lyster
Cemetery, Buffalo County. She was married to John URNESS
around 1902. They had 4 children: Katherine, Lila, Elsie, and Alvin.
None of whom are living. I am researching this family for the benefit
of my daughters - John and Mary URNESS would be their great

Am researching LINDQUIST and KNAPPEN
Christine WEITLING married to Jon (or John) LINDQUIST. Both migrated
from Sweden. They had two sons, Andrew William Lindquist and Charles
Lindquist. Andrew was born in Alma, Buffalo County,
Wisconsin.
Need info as to date of approximate date of immigration from Sweden.
Have been unable to locate in Immigration records at LDS. Andrew
William Lindquist, born in 1870 married M. Edna Knappen, born in 1869
also in Alma, Wisconson and relocated in
Breckenridge, Minnesota. Most important to find Knappen ancestry.
Am trying to trace Lindquist and Knappen families as far back as
possible. any help will be appreciated.
8/23/97 Correction: There may have been another brother for Andrew. I
only knew of Charles but research (not confirmed) indicates a third
one. Madison Vital Stats have no record of birth of either Andrew nor
M. Edna Knappen.

Lived Buffalo County, near Fountion City, WI. They
lived in the area by the river which is now known as Merrick State
Park. Mathias was married in Germany to a Rosina. A child Joseph was
born to that union, Joseph came to America and settled in the same
area. Mathias and Johanna had 3 children, John,b.1855 Sophia b.1850,
and Mary b.1861. Would like info on any of thier decendents,
especially John. He married a Maria KAMMUELLER 1-17-1877. Their
children were Albert, Lena, Matt, Hannah.

Franzeska Shindler WEISENBECK (1838-1917)
The widow's older boys emigrated to the USA in the late 80's from
Austria. She followed later with the rest of her family. Most of the
boys worked "on the river" (Chippewa) until they had enough money to
buy farms and the whole family settled in Buffalo
and Pepin Counties (WI). Franzeska is buried in the Catholic cemetary
in Durand.
I have over 900 names of their descendents (including spouses) but I
am missing some of the basic data (date and place of birth, marriage,
death, and in later generations, divorce) . I am mainly interested in
present family members and in those of the recent past. What I really
like to get is copies of newspaper birth, death, and marriage
announcements. I will be glad to communicate with anyone by e-mail or
snail-mail.

Alma 1880-? Jacob owned a saloon/boarding house that
was destroyed once by fire. Rebuilt and is the present site of Tenney
Telephone Co. Jacob died in Alma February 1905 and was a member of

SCHLAEFLI. They immigrated from Solothurn, Switzerland circa
1853-1856. I believe they settled in Buffalo County,

My granfather, Eustice Herbert (Herb) FRIZZELL, was born 22 Oct 1870
in Eau Claire, Eau Claire,Wisconsin. Herb had an older brother Leslie
D. FRIZZELL b. ca. 1869. I believe that Leslie died at a young age as
the results of some kind of Railroad accident. Did Leslie work for
the Railroad? When and how did he die? Also I would like any

I am looking for the families of William LEECE. William Leece came
from the Isle of Man around 1845 with his wife Elizabeth, and sons
John (1824), William, and David. He settled in Lafayette County,
WI.
His son John married Mary Sweeney. They had 8 children, one who is
Samuel(1862) who married Susan Benston (1869).
I am also looking for the families of Adam BENSTON. Adam Benston came
from Scotland in the mid 1800's. I believe he settled in
Buffalo County, WI. He had 7 children, one being
James Benston (1833, Scotland).
James Benston married Mary Richmond and had 7 children, all born in
Alma, WI, one being Susan Benston(1869).
Samuel Leece and Susan Benston married, they are our
great-grandparents.

My great grandfather's name was August RUFF and he came from Kanton
Bern, Switzerland and settled in Gilmanton, WI. He
married Mary JOHNSON also from the area of Gilmanton. Her side came
from Norway.
There were three Ruff brothers who married three Johnson sisters.
August Ruff (my great grandfather) married Mary Johnson and his
brothers Ferdinand and Albert married Caroline Johnson and Anna
Johnson respectively. I know the Johnson family came from Norway in
1868 and settled in Montana, Buffalo county. What I
don't know is where and how the Ruff family came to the area and
where they came from. I only know the names of the three Ruff
brothers who married the three Johnson sisters.
Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Norcross and Miranda, his wife. They were living in Markesan, WI as
of 1880 census, he age 69, she 57. they did not appear in 1900
census. I could find no record in cemeteries in the area around
Markesan, They had moved to Green Lake area in 1867, living near son
Frank. Any help will be appreciated. also looking for possible school
records or marriage info on their daughter Elizabeth or Eliza

Joseph Hyde and his wife, Arminda Jenks (b.abt 1800, NY, d. aft.
1880, Buffalo Co., WI) had six children: 1. Ezekiel A. (b. abt 1824,
d. Civil War); Plina A. (b. Jun 1826, d. aft 1905), Clarissa (b. abt
1827), Ebenezer (b. abt 1830), Oliver J. (b. 1831), and Amelia A. (b.
abt 1833). All came in 1840s to Marquette Co., WI, and many later
removed to Towns of Maxville and Gilmantown, Buffalo
Co., 1860s. Plina A. was living 1905 in Town of
Maxville. He married 1) Mary Gardner and 2) Martha Briggs,
having perhaps nine children.
Seeking info. on these Hydes, and obits of Plina A. Hyde, mother

Paul Paulson MOEN, born in Ourdale, Norway.
Entered into service with the 27th Infantry Regiment, Wisconsin and
showed his residence as Vermont in Dane County.
After discharge from the service on 29 August, 1865 he changed his
name to MOE
and purchased some farm land in Buffalo County.
