The Stevens Point Chapter
was organized on 4 June 1898 and the sister-daughters recently
celebrated our 112 years of "Tapestry of Service".
The Chapter meets the third week of
each month (Wednesday or Saturday), September to December and February to May;
Chapter Officers meet in June, August, and January.
In fulfilling the NSDAR
mission of patriotism, historical preservation and education the
chapter:
·
celebrates Flag Day, June
14, and conducts a Flag Retirement Ceremony every other year.
·
participates in the
Stevens Point July Independence Day parade and
distributes flags to parade watchers
·
serves veterans and spouses at Wisconsin King Veterans Home
sponsoring two Bingo events
·
observes Constitution Week in September with a month long display in the
Charles M. White Public Library
·
participates in Wreaths Across America held in December, at the Korean
War Memorial at Lake Pacawa, Plover, WI. The chapter lays the wreaths on
veterans’ graves after the ceremony.
·
presents the DAR-ROTC Award to a graduating UW-SP senior at the ROTC
Military Ball in March
·
sponsors high school seniors as Good Citizens, seniors and college
students who apply for DAR Scholarships and students writing essays in the
American History and Christopher Columbus contests
·
nominates community citizens for DAR Conservation Medal and Community
Service Awards
·
supports with monies, volunteer hours and ideas Fort Winnebago Surgeons’
Quarters, the property owned by WSDAR
·
sponsors the Thomas Omans Society, N.S.C.A.R. for children, 21 and
younger who lineally descend from a Revolutionary War
