He married Anna THOMPSON on 03 October 1806 in Greene, Androsoggin Co, ME. Anna Thomspon b. 16 May 1791 Wales, Androsoggin, ME - d 23 March 1865 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME. They moved from Greene, ME sometime around 1815-18 and settled in North Hill, Somerset Co. Later the name was changed to Brighton. He married Hannah Oliver. 4 Ch: Nelson 1844, Caroline, Hannah L 1847, William H 1850. They moved to Neillsville, Clark Co, WI in 1868. Both Harrison and Johnson came to Clark County, ME and probably worked in the pineries and maybe for their brother Leonard. Harrison eventually returned to Maine, probably after Leonard died in 1871. Johnson is listed in the 1850 census with wife Mercy Brand in Hartland, ME and 1860 with wife and 5 ch: Prince A b. 1840, and Mercy Ann b 1842, Melvinas, Mary A, Caroline. He was a carpenter. Elias probably served in the Civil War. His gravestone had a marker mentioning his regiment. VIi .Leonard R STAFFORD b. 12 August 1823 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME - d 19 August 1871 Staffordsville, Clark Co, WI. . He married Merribah W Elliott (b. 1834 ME), dau of Isaiah & Betsy (Maloon) Elliott. Leonard is listed in the 1850 census as a farmer in Hartland ME. They moved to WI by 1859 and went into the lumber business in Staffordsville, Clark Co (the location being named Staffordsville for Leonard R Stafford). Staffordville was located about a mile and a half north of Neillsville and is simply farm land now, no traces whatsoever exist now of the lumber company. In the 1870 WI census, his real estate was set at $100,000 and his personal property at $80,000, he was a farmer, hotelkeeper, livery stable owner and lumberman with many people living in his establishment and working for him. His logging company was in Clark Co, his log mark was a line cut across the back with four smaller lines cut at a certain angle- it was called the 'long forty'. At his death in 1871, the Hall of Hercules Lodge, IODF requested all lodge members be in attendance at his funeral. Ref. Intend to marry October 1848. 2 Ch: Abby 1849, James E 1857, and Alice, Maud. VIIj. Richard Thompson STAFFORD b. 14 September 1825 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME.- d. 4 November 1897 in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa Co, WI, burial in Lafayette, Prairie View, Halley. He married to Margaret M FIELD in 1853. Margaret M Field b 4 October 1827 Windham, ME d. 23 September 1907 Chippewa Falls, WI. She was dau of William Field (10 February 1796 Windham, ME-22 December 1871) & Margaret Campbell (1798- ?). 3 Ch: William Henry 1855, Peter Field 1857, Lura Isabel 1866. In 1856, Richard & Margaret Staffford owned 300 acres of land in Orono, ME. At the 1870 census in ME, her parents are living with them and Richard reports a real estate value of $1,500; they moved to Montana and in 1874 the family of four adults and three children moved to Staffordsville, Clark Co,WI and then moved to Chippewa Falls, WI. They farmed in Lafayette, WI. In 1890, Richard & Margaret Stafford moved to Fresno, CA where they owned a vineyard, but they returned to Chippewa Falls, WI by 1897. William Henry STAFFORD b. 19 March 1855, Orono, Penboscot, ME- d 9 June 1939 Cornell, Chippewa, WI. Burial 11 June 1939 Forest Hill cemetery, Chippewa, WI. He married 1stly Etta Hopkins (1855-1887) on 11 April 1885, and he married 2ndly on 25 October 1890 to Fannie Hatch (Shields) Carter (2 August 1860 Oshkosh, WI-2 April 1931). Miss Fanny Carter was school principal at Chippewa High in 1890. William H Stafford settled in Chippewa Falls in 1874 and he first taught school for one year before taking up the study of law in the office of Hon. J. M. Bingham. He was admitted to the WI State Bar in 1879 and in 1881 he was elected county Judge and served on the bench from 1882-1890. Following this he served a city attorney and district attorney for various periods and in 1893 was elected mayor of Chippewa Falls. He also owned and operated a farm of eleven hundred acres in the town of Cleveland. He was prominent in Democratic circles and was active in civic affairs, serving for many years as president of the city library board and also as public administrator. He was a member of the Chippewa Bar Assn. and the American Bar Assn. and also a member of the Bar of the US Supreme Court. He was a member of the Masonic bodies and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Ref. After Harold served in World War II, he entered law school, and joined his father's law firm and became a trial lawyer. He had moved to WI in 1874 from Orono, ME with his parents and siblings. He was a farmer and lumberman. In 1895, the census records the family at Dovre, Barron Co, WI and in the 1902 at Cartwright, WI and later at Neuaulburn, WI. He married 1stly in 1880 to Lizzie / Hannah _____ (b 1861-d 4 May 1881 WI, buried Prairie Farm, Halley, WI). In Saskatchewan, Canada he homesteaded at SW Qtr Section 21, Twp 48, Range 16 beginning August 1909. 2 Ch by first wife: Lizzie STAFFORD b 25 April 1881 Chippewa Falls, WI - d after 1931. Lived in Akron, OH in about 1942, moved to Oakland CA. She married a Mr Nickle and had 3 sons all born in Pennsylvania. She married 2ndly to Mr Ihnot and had 1 son. Ref. death cert, census 1900 WI. IXjab.Covert S. Frank STAFFORD b. 20 April 1889 WI.- d. 8 November 1957 Winter, WI. He married Hazel Cutsforth on 19 December 1915. No Ch. He had accompanied his father, step-mother and two younger brothers to Saskatchewan, Canada via train to Star City in August 1909, and was granted a homestead section of land NW Qtr Section 23 Twp 48 Range 16 in July 1914. He soon thereafter returned to WI and lived at Chippewa Falls / Eagle Point / Winter / Radiason WI and was employed for many years with the Omaha Railway Co. Ref. Richard Leonard STAFFORD b. 23 December 1893 Dovre, Barron Co, WI- d. 15 October 1971 Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, burial at Ratner, Sask Lutheran Cemetery. He became a naturalized Canadian citizen and was granted his homestead section of land NW Qtr Section 16 Twp 48 Range 16. He was a farmer and a fur trader and one of the first in their community to own a Model T car. He married Harriett Eliza (Currall) Boynton (13 April 1883 Kent England -27 January 1967 Ratner, Sask, Canada) on 21 February 1922 at Star City, Saskatchewan, Canada, ceremony by Rev W Chipping.. He was a farmer and upon the death of his father assumed that quarter of land. He married Bessie Violet Leach on 23 November 1917 at Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada. Lura Isabel STAFFORD b. 21 July 1866 Orono, Penboscot Co, ME - d. 26 December 1946 Clatsp, OR. She married Will Towle (b. ? - d. 1945). She was a nurse by profession. They lived at Manitowoc at about 1931, and at Astoria, Oregon 1939-1946. In Oregon he owned a chocolate making business. Nieces in Canada gladly received boxes of chocolates every year at Christmas from their aunt in Oregon state. VIIk.Nelson STAFFORD b. 29 November 1827 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME. - d. 1848 VIIl. Albion K STAFFORD b. 29 November 1827 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME - d. 6 October 1912 Chippewa Falls, WI. He married Evaline A Elliot (1840-1912) on 13 October 1867. Albion moved to Neillsville, WI and then to Lafayette, Chippewa Co, WI where he was a farmer. 2 Ch: Albion G 1869 , Eveline/Eveyln 1847-1959. Ref. WI Census 1895, Obit Notice 22 April 1902 Daily Indep. Neither ch married. Other: Albion died April 20,1902. Obit mentions those at the funeral and among them was Peter Stafford who was of Cartwright, WI at that time. VIIm. Martha Ann STAFFORD b. 12 March 1830 Hartland, Somerset Co, ME- d. 8 June 1918.
