Here are Terry's comments on the photo:
My grandfather, Edwin Bilke, was a member of Company K, Second Wisconsin Infantry. He enlisted June, 1916 in Beaver Dam. He is seated 6th from left in the photo. The unit was serving in Texas with General Pershing during the border problems with Mexico.
Many of these soldiers were later mobilized for WWI. My grandfather served with the 2nd, 127th, 128th and 162nd infantry before being discharged as a first sergeant in September 1918.
You're probably aware that this unit descended from one of the regiments of the Civil War Iron Brigade.
Alan Bearder has been able to identify an ancestor in the photo:
"I am quite sure that I can identify one of two of my ancestors in this photo. I have two ancestors listed in Comany K, William Bearder and Fred Bearder. I believe Fred Bearder is my grandfather's brother. The individual that I believe is one of the Bearder's is the third seated individual from the left of the photo with his hands on his knees."
Per Kelly Frey: "The seventh soldier standing in from the right in the photo of Company K 1916 is Clarence Clifford Frey from Beaver Dam. He was the company clerk." link to article
