This is a very preliminary, partial index of the Dodge County Pionier German language newspaper, published from 1876 to 1945 in Mayville, WI. The index includes obituaries, wedding announcements, marriage licenses and some wedding anniversaries and births. Most births, particularly early on, were not reported in the paper. The information is not limited to residents of Mayville, nor is it limited to Germans. Bear in mind that there may be errors in my transcription (particularly due to the similarity of the letters "s" and "f", and the letters "I" and "J" in the old German script), errors in the newspaper itself and the usual variation in name spellings. German vowels with umlauts are rendered with that vowel plus an "e", (ie. an umlaut u is ue).
Microfilm of the newspaper can be ordered through interlibrary loan from the Wisconsin State Historical Society. Ask about interlibrary loan at your local public library. See Dodge Co. Lookups for an offer to help those who do not read German. Also, check out Newspaper Sources to see in detail which issues are available since there are some gaps in the collection.
