     The purpose of the German Interest Group (GIG) is to educate and support our members with their German genealogical research. The GIG sponsors monthly evening meetings with speakers and an annual workshop.

     Meetings are the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2921 Mount Zion Avenue, Janesville. There are no meetings in January, July, or September. Yearly dues are $10.00/single, $12.50/family, and $16.00 for foreign memberships and include a quarterly newsletter. You will find membership and registration information on a separate page.

What Is His Name?

This skinny fellow wearing lederhosen and a distinctive German hat (and holding a mug of beer) was name by GIG. He has been our mascot since 1994. In a very early GIG newsletter, his name was given. So, what is his name? This has been our mascot since 1994. His proper name is Herr Gig. That is, "Mister German Interest Group-Wisconsin."

Meeting Dates & Speaker Information

December 7, 2009 - "The Historic Christmas Tree Ship: A True Story of Faith, Hope and Love."

Rochelle Pennington will present her famous her famous Christmas Tree Ship story about the Rouse Simmons.

February 1, 2010 - "Passenger Lists - How to Use Them and What Can be Found."

Linda Schliesser will provide basic information as to how to search for 19th and 20th century immigrants to the U.S.
