- Madison Public Library--if you go to the LINKcat catalog and then to the "newspapers" tab, you can search an index of the Wisconsin State Journal and the papers for Baraboo, Portage and Reedsburg.

- Familysearch.org--this is the LDS's online database, which includes the entire 1880 US census
- Ancestry.com--it ain't cheap, but it can be very useful
- GENDEX--this is a database of names linked to online family trees
- Ellis Island records--If you have an ancestor who came through Ellis Island, you should be able to find them here.
