Alva Emery Drake

PIONEER FARMER DIES SUNDAY

Alva Emery Drake, 76, passed away Sunday morning on the farm where he was born, after an illness of several months.

December 27, 1866, Mr. Drake was born to John Drake and Harriet Heydon Drake. On November 29, 1894 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Parman. to this union three sons were born, one who passed away soon after birth, Floyd Drake, who lives on a farm nearby, and Leland Alva who died at the age of 16 years.

Mr. Drake was a member of the Methodist church for many years. After his health failed he spent much time listening to his radio, also enjoying the sermons of Rev. Polley of Madison, who was called to preach the funeral service. He was assessor of the Town of Black Earth for about 20 years. A man of earnest Christian character, he was highly loved and respected by his family and many friends.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and son Floyd; one brother, Frank of Sarona, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie (should be Hattie) Weber of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Mrs. Lida Gebhardt of Dixon, Ill., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Schanel Funeral Home, Black Earth, and burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Rev. Charles R. Polley, Madison officiating.

Those who attended from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. John Drake of Sarona, Wis., Mrs. Julius Weber of Fond du Lac, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gebhardt of Dixon, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Drake of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Parman of Baraboo, besides many others from the surrounding community.

BLACK EARTH, Wis:

Funeral services for Alva E. Drake, 76 who died Saturday at his farm home near here where he had been born and lived all his life, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Schanel funeral home here, the Rev. Charles R. Pollock, Madison, officiating.

Mr. Drake was the son of John Drake, pioneer settler in this community. He was town assessor for more than 20 years, resigning about a year ago.

Survivors are his wife; a son Floyd, at home; a brother, Frank, Sarona, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Julius Weber, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. William Gebhardt, Dixon, Ill; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
