Rev. A. Fehlandt Succumbs Thursday from Back Injuries

Believed to Have Been "Holding His Own" Earlier in Week

Had Been Moved to Chicago Mercy Hospital on Sunday

The Rev. A. F. Fehlandt died on Thursday morning about 10:30 at Mercy hospital in Chicago, according to a report received here by Dr. W. J. Mutch, close friend of the family.

The announcement of the death of the 70-year-old pastor and retired professor followed by only two days the report that he had been removed to Chicago from Tucumcari, New Mexico. Arrangements for the final services for the economics and sociology professor have not been completed. His wife and son, Theodore, who have been attending him since the accident will arrive in Ripon Friday, Oct. 27, it is said.

Stood Trip Well

He was reported to have stood the 28-hour trip from Tucumcari to Chicago very well, arriving in Chicago Sunday morning, Oct. 22, attended by his wife, his son, Theodore, and a nurse.

Recent letters from those newar to him had stated that there had been little change in his condition from day to day but that doctors in charge had felt that he was doing as well as could be expected.

Severe Injuries Fatal

The immediate cause of death was the severe injuries he received in an automobile accident about two weeks ago near Tucumcari, New Mex.

Born in Mazomanie, Wis., July 4, 1869, he attended the schools there, being graduated from high school in 1887. Later attending the University of Wisconsin he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1891. The following year he attended Princeton university and seminary and obtained his degree of Bachelor of Divinity in 1894 from Yale.

To Ripon in 1914

For the next 20 years he preached, coming to Ripon college in 1914 as professor of economics, where he taught continuously until 1935, when he retired. He taught part time until 1937.

In 1914 he also took over the pastorate of the Green Lake Congregational church, a position which he held until his death.

An ardent Prohibitionist, the well known educuator at one time was gubernatorial candidate on the Prohibition ticket. He was a member of the American Economic association, the American Political Science association, the American Association for labor legislation, and the American Sociological society.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. G. F. O’Brien and Mrs. Ruth Fehlandt Sanders, both of Chicago; and three sons, Theodore, Chicago; Carl, Brooklyn, N.Y., aind [sic] Philip, Tacoma, Wash. There are five grandchildren.
