MRS. JOHN HARE

On Sunday morning, Oct. 9, 1910, Mrs. Mary Porter Hare died at the home of her son, Earl Carter, in the town of Mazomanie, in the 82nd year of her age. She was born in Connecticut, February 8, 1829, being the oldest child of the late John and Eliza Porter. When she was seven years of age, her parents moved to Sullivan county N. Y. In 1870, she moved to Mazomanie, Wis., residing in Mazomanie and Black Earth the remainder of her earthly life. On January 15, 1849, she was united in marriage to Louis S. McKee, who departed this life April 20, 1869. To this union were born nine children. Her second marriage occurred February 26, 1874, at which time she was united in marriage to Jonathan Carter, who died in 1881. From this second marriage one child was born. On September 3, 1885, she was joined in marriage to John Hare, whe [sic] preceded her in death seven years ago.

She is survived by seven children, John McKee, of Mazomanie, Mrs. Jas. Mussen, of Lodi, Mrs. Ervin Dunlap, of Mazomanie, Mrs. Clarence Goddard, of Medford, Mrs. Chas. Dougherty, of Milwaukee, Miss Eva McKee and Earl Carter, of Mazomanie, who with many friends mourn her departure. Mrs. Hare at the time of her death was a member of the Black Earth M. E. church, having been a faithful consistent member for many years. She was a consecrated Christian, a kind and loving mother and proved herself a real friend unto many. By her kindness and her unostentatious Christ-like life, she won the respect of those who knew her. Funeral services were held in the Black Earth M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. R. Carver. Interment was made in the Black Earth cemetery. Among those from out of town present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mussen and Mrs. Alva Wilson, of Lodi, Mrs. C. E. Goddard, Mrs. C. W. Dougherty, Mr. and Mrs. Danford Blizzard, of Verona, Mrs. Easton and daughter, Miss Maud, and Mrs. John Ford, of Madison.
