Samuel Hawley, one of the oldest settlers of the town of Berry, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. W. Karlberg, in this city, Tuesday Morning, June 9th, 1903, at the age of 72 years, 8 months, and 11 days, the cause of his death being a complication of diseases.
The deceased was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England, in the year 1830 and came to America in 1845 and settled in the town of Berry, Dane Co, where he resided until a short time before his death. He was married in 1808, which union was blessed with seven children – 4 sons and 3 daughters who all survive him. His wife died about 19 years ago. He was a member of the G.A.R. Post of Mazomanie, having served his county as a soldier in both the 23rd and 24th regiments of Wisconsin Volunteers.
The funeral services will he held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Karberg this Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Rev. Rundert of Black Earth will officiate. The remains will be laid to rest in Sunning Hill cemetery in the town of Berry.
